First 7950 Listed for Retail

The first of many retail listings for the 7950 are up today thanks to the online distributer PROVANTAGE. Not much is known but the high retail price of $481.58. Time will tell if this is just the normal mark up for a pre-release item or if this is in fact retail. Ironically the picture they display is that of a ATI HD4850. The listed specs are as follows: HD 7950 3072MB DDR5 384BIT PCI Express DVI.

Yeah, they listed 7970's before the January 9th at an inflated price as well. I guess you're paying for the "special" order. heh.

Maybe its because I have never used them I try to stick with newegg and places I know have good service. If I catch something on sale from them then I will test the waters.

If you look at the Doninhamber performance of the 7950 overclocked vs. the 7970, assuming all of their numbers are correct, based on $450 and $550 price points for the two cards respectively, you're looking at a 15-18% better bang for your buck for the overclocked 7950 vs. a stock 7970. Stock you ask? 10-15%. If you're thinking HD 7900 series and you want more bang for your buck, 7950's for you. Not that we couldn't infer that the top-end card would demand more money for simply being the best, but it's nice to see the numbers back it up.

but the 7970 OCs like a best as well so at then end the 7950 isn't that much better

Umm, that's called false advertising, mmkay. A stock image would be something like "No Image Available" like most sensible sites

but i`ve bought sapphire 7970 and now i don`t know what for

Provantage ... no good luck...overpriced and they don't hold stock an hardly anything...
Special order means 3mo. back ordered.

Last time I made an order that was "in stock" I canceled after 3mo of waiting.


I am curious what an after release price looks like from other resellers.
