don't forget that 2 ghz phenom is prety much a low end of phenom, they will release higher clocks later on...

Remember, all of this "released clockspeed" stuff is rumor.. and much of it old... much of it could change.. or it could get worse.. AMD is unusually quiet.

Reliable production is the only physical limitation really...

But for realistic purposes, smaller die = cheaper = better in so many ways

a die shrink ALONE will NOT decrease temp only lower the volts will drop the temps run 2 amds a 130nm newcastle and 90nm venice side by side both at same clocks and volts will have THE SAME TEMP (within a 1 to 2C diff in temp)

Is Core 2 about to top out (GHz)? Very few processors (whatever the architecture) can get a lot higher than 3-4GHz without fancy sub-zero liquid cooling.

What is the next performance trick?

Power 7 will come in at 6GHz stock

Power6 can reach 6GHz on air, but the initial release was at 4.7GHz.

I just think pple should just accept the fact that intel has the superior product right now and quit arguing or trying to find any little minor defect. 2 years ago I was perfectly happy with my San Diego + Nforce4 Ultra cos it was cheaper+faster....period. right now intel kicks ass and will do so for a few years till amd gets their head out their ass and builds a better platform. anyways what I think is just mind blowing is a stock quad core wolfdale with 12mb, l2 cache 1333FSB and 3.3ghz core

I still think that Opteron is far superior in massively SMP applications, and IBM and Sun Microsystems agree (yes, that statement should be the other way round )

I think it's dangerous to think about this in black and white. One is superior in some ways which make it superior for my particular application, would be a more accurate way of stating it. Judge each on merit in your particular application, instead of just judging on hearsay, PR, and overgeneralised and uselessly vectorised benchmarks.
