First Single-Slot, Air-Cooled GeForce GTX 680 Taking Shape

Two words: "loud" and "hot"

Dont hold your breath, they said this about a 470 when they were released.

Guess what though, it never happened.

Galaxy needs to follow through and stop putting out "idea" cards.

Very cool, I wonder what temps will be like.

enough to make you want a dual slot cooler again

I guess it gives you room for a PCIe disk controller or sound card in a micro-itx motherboard slot normally covered by the GPU cooler. The fan won't have another card blocking it. You'd probably get best use out of this single slot card with one of the cases where there are two drive cages and you can remove the one on the bottom.

I wonder what the heatsink looks like =O

Probably just a thin slab of aluminum with tightly-packed fins going long-ways and a bit of copper where the GPU is. iirc from my old 8800gt, that's what it was like on there

Here's the press release of the single slot 470 Galaxy presented a while back:

Its damn near the exact same:

i just realised, what is the pci-e power connector arrangements going to be like considering the reference one has the stack of 2X 6 pins.

sweet jesus...maybe I need to start planning to cut out the whole front of my case..

The biggest problem with this GPU is that in most cases that you need a single slot GPU they are very short and this thing will go to far in

4 words: How do you know??? :shadedshu
Personal experience from having owned a stock 8800GT with that style of cooler. And I'm pretty sure this GPU produces a lot more heat.

Feel free to prove me wrong though (idle clocks don't count).

Maybe if your case has a front fan the end of the card will get cool air right from the source. :-p

heh... reminds me of my 8800GT humming away in my case right now.
