the bios i flashed to was the one with the most similar P/N number to mine after I read here that some one flashed theirs with the wrong one n ran into a few issues.....anyway. it will only take a few mins to reflash the card over again n reinstall the drivers but i will do that another time.

----

and yes - my card is a sapphire just like the one in the first post. non reference & non toxic

well I tried the toxic bios again and reinstalled the drivers again afterwards - same thing happends. artifacts & crashes in Kombustor after 2mins.

about the MSI bios. is it wise to flash a REFERENCE bios onto a NON-REFERENCE card? Ive downloaded that bios but most of the people that I've read use that bios already had reference cards.

You are right. When i was trying to flash my card and searched the net for info,i was reading that "Doing this on non-reference boards is almost guaranteed to brick your card".I am not trying to convince you to flash your card with the MSI bios,I am just saying what i have done.My card works perfect 5 months now.My card and your card are the same.If your mobo has a second pci slot and you have a spare card, then is really difficult to brick the card.If you want,i will give you the bios i use.

actually...depending on what clocks you got flashing your non-ref 5850 with the MSI bios - im tempted to try it out also.

while searching google for more info, i have come across people that flashed their 5850's to 5870's so im very curious now. Ive downloaded the Asus & the MSI unlocked bio's for the 5850 & I want to give it ago but I dont want to brick my card.

Man, from my little experience i can tell you that is really difficult to brick the card.If the flashing progress goes wrong, you will know before the restart and you probably reflash the original bios back.It is obvious that the toxic bios you tried to flash, wasn't right for your card.Did you brick the card?I don't think so_Of course it's dangerous but if you know what are you doing,i am sure there is no risk.I suggest the MSI bios but the ASUS is fine too_One more thing. You said you downloaded the unlocked bios, the MSI unlock A11 or something.I am not using this bios.

Basically at the clocks. The MSI which i use has the same clocks with the original. When i opened the unlocked A11 with RBE,was completely different from mine.Look,i can't tell you what really gonna happen if you flash the unlocked but i know for sure that the MSI i flashed works perfect.Maybe are the same, who knows. There are much more details you cant see with RBE.
