Thanks cbupdd

I managed to fix my HIS HD 5670 1GB IceQ that I accidentally flashed the 512MB version bios to

For some reason my 'puter would not even get to bios once the card had been wrongly flashed even when I connected the monitor to the onboard GPU (HD3200) ??? so I installed an old 8400GS into PCIe 1 connected to my monitor with the HD5670 installed in PCIe 0 and used atiflash back to the default bios

For some unknown reason these particular cards idle much faster (600/900 ) than default (157/300) :(

Yes I used GPU-Z, CCC and CPU-Z to check the idle speeds, I'll try using Winflash to edit the bios to default or maybe just flash a different brand 5670 bios that runs @ default spec

Any way to recover with this method on a reference 4890? I think i may have just messed up my 4890

Hi guys!

I hope i may borrow this thread a bit since i kind of got the same problem.

A while ago i flashed my HD 4890 with RBE/Winflash so i get a higher voltage. Now, about three months later when i wanted to flash back to original(for some reason? :twitch:) i couldn't find the original bios file that i saved. It's like i never saved it, but i know i did. That's why i downloaded a new BIOS from TechPowerUp! and i think i might have downloaded a veeeeery wrong BIOS. Like the 4890 BE card or something like that.

When i try to boot the computer with the HD 4890 in the Primary PCIE Slot i get this:
"You have not connected one of your video card power connectors to the power supply. please refer to the 'getting started guide' for proper hardware installation."

And neither W7 nor DOS can find the card when i try with another video card in the Primary slot and the HD4890 in the Secondary slot.

I don't have the standard reference 4890, but the XFX non-reference:
http://www.inserzionavy.com/images/XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 Zalman.jpg

From what i understand by reading this thread, BIOS Chip are the kind of chips that i've marked here:
http://forums.techpowerup.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=33648&stc=1&d=1266923897

http://forums.techpowerup.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=33649&stc=1&d=1266924533

Sorry for the bad quality pictures.

Pm25LV010's data sheet looked almost identical to the one computertechy found, but my question is, is it this chip?

I am not that electronicly involved, but i think i am capable of performing the small operation that is required.

Any help is appreciated!

Best Regards Daniel from Sweden!

ROFL, I did the exact same thing to my 4890, and now i have this exact same problem... I'm looking for a solution, i'll shoot you a pm if I can find something

keep you ide speeds the way the are. Do you not know how many production chips have failed to stabalise at these ridiculously low 157/300 speeds.

^ yes that did cross my mind

To be quite honest I am a little disappointed in the HIS HD5670 IceQ, by default the fan spins @ 28% idle but the card is very hot to the touch so maybe the Vgpu is higher than it should be

With the fan spinning @ 28% the air flow out the backplate of the card is near non existent and in a M-ITX case it can get way too hot so I might have to up the fan speed a little :(

i fixed it all thanks to this :) and some help from wizzard with finding the correct chip :toast:

http://home.no/rogerh99/1.pdf (thanks to Frogger for posting this previously):toast:

had to bridge pin 1 & 8 of U8 chip(on the back of the card) & U37 chip(on the front of the card) notice that their are 2 bios chips for each GPU core(like the 4870X2) pin 1 should have a dot on the IC or a arrow pointing to it, and pin 8 should be the exact oposite.

DATASHEET ON FLASH ROM

atiflash see's the card when those pins are bridged but doesnt allow flashing, just unbridge the pins and flash....job done :D

FRONT OF CARD

BACK OF CARD

Hope this helps :D:toast:

EDIT: doing the front bios was extremely hard with a water block on it, but after some blutak and some superglue...job done LMAO

Thank you for posting this! This just saved me $700+. After reading about someone flashing their Sapphire 5970 with an ASUS BIOS to fix stability on their, I decided to give it a try, but didn't have luck. Had a black screen. I had horrible anxiety thinking about what a huge disaster I just created. I was already searching around for new cards... but as most of you know, these are hard to come by.

I ended up soldering some thin wires to pins 1 and 8 of the ROM chips, and wired them up to a DPDT switch. Also, had an old GeForce card. Had to make sure that the working GeForce was in a higher slot than the bricked Radeon. Once I was in DOS, I just flipped the switch, was able to flash back to the Sapphire ROM, and back in business!

Closest I've seen to that is the "Safe Mode" on the new Asus 58705970 cards.

i like to make DOS more simple so i rename the image files to 0 & 1 and put in my image folder, but i forgot i also flashed my 7600 recently and because i bricked my card using the fan fix bios from xfx and had to jump on the server with the 7600gt to sort the usb stick i just wasnt thinking.... and ended up flashing my 7600 for gpu 1 and....this happened.

im asking for fixes, not stupid questions.:shadedshu

ordering another 5970 and i am gonna pay XFX to sort this out as my card has no warranty because i slapped a water-block on it. nothing wrong with having 2 5970's if they get it going:rockout::rockout::roll: but the bottleneck is gonna be

sounds like u should stop trying to me imo :slap:

actually you read wrong. I said if the card was bricked i would get another and if i fixed the original card i would end up having 2.

i said nothing about bricking another card. i pity your reading skills.

u said u messed up with some fan bios. I assumed that ment bricked

whatevski, im not bashing u I'm jus bashing this bios tweaking crap, its too easy to completely ruin a card for too small of gains.

very true, but when u see others flashing their cards without a problem it get's annoying

the whole problem was caused because every now and then bios chips get mixed up, other 5970 users would have their 0 adapter as master and 1 as slave. mine was the exact opposite thus it was not booting the card when using the XFX way. just rename the bios's and job done. perfect card.

this was found out over as XS with some of the asus cards as well.
