For the older gamers here, what can I expect when I actually do have to start wearing reading glasses?

thank you for posting everyone, it has been interesting reading all of these. I can't notice it yet, but I can tell very vaguely it is coming since I am almost 40. I am not 100% vision like I used to be, but like 99%, I don't know how to explain it, and yeah I see an eye doctor every year, I see 20/10 in bright light, and 20/40 in dim rooms.

@64K do you or anyone else here know if Gunnar Optiks gaming brand of computer glasses have proper anti-glare feature? They come in reading strengths

Been wearing glasses since I was 18. Prepare to have some major annoyances about scratching your nose or touching your face in general as your glasses will get smeared with no contact whatsoever and you clean them, they look clean, you put them on, smear. Repeat rest of life.
Yep, having to wear glasses all of the time does get really annoying at times.
I constantly have to carry a micro fiber cloth with me when I go somewhere cause the lenses aint clean it drives me crazy.
Raining outside but I have to go somewhere? Yep thats gonna be fun or when its winter and whenever I enter a warmer building or even when I get on the bus my glasses instantly turn foggy until their temperature evens out. 'this was extremely annoying with the covid masks on top..'
Or when I was hanging out at an aqua place during the summer and some kids jumped into the pool and splashing water all over me and my glasses, effectively blinding me. 'then when it dried the water left white spots on my glasses which were quite difficult to clean off..'

I think I was already supposed to wear glasses in high school but I've ignored it like the stupid teen I was and that did some serious damage to my eyes. And no smart phones did not exist back then but instead we had crappy old neon tube ligts in every classroom + had to sit infront of old CRT monitors for a lot of hours/week. 'by the end of the high school half of my class had to wear glasses so ye..'
When I've went to get my eyes checked and finally get some glasses made for me my optician told me that my sight is at around 10% and its not getting better ever since.

Ofc non of that will be an issue with simply reading glasses just felt like sharing that as a fellow 4 eyed.

Gunnar Optiks website says they do. I've been wearing glasses since I was 3, almost 57 years now. I can't see more than a foot past my face. Soon I'll need to get another pair for reading or get bifocals. Glasses cost me $1200 to $$1400cdn depending on the frames

I'm 43 I use prescribed computer glasses when im going to be at the computer for a long time. If not my eyes get tired and then can turn into a migraine. Didnt start till i was 42 really. I would buy something like that over any generic gaming glasses.

Contact lenses or the lack thereof. I use a 55" 4K screen with my contacts, glasses have too much reflection to be immersive. Biggest issue is unless you want to wear them tight and annoying VS on your nose looking like a serial killer. Contacts win every time. I wear mine for a couple weeks, then a couple days with glasses.

Nittenal frames that are light help, but I still detest them.

Also, started here a LONG time ago... never thought I would be here to discuss glasses and getting old...

Alright, looks like I will be going for some Gunnar Optiks glasses when the time comes, unless my eye doctor offers me a custom made pair for a decent price, we will see, thanks again everyone

Is gaming immersion diminished with reading glasses?
I've been wearing reading glasses for over a decade. Being middle-aged sucks, but it's not a serious problem.
im only a couple of years away from needing some reading glasses ( I can tell )

just wondering what to actually expect when that day comes
If you can already tell, it's time to check in with the eye doctor. They will have the best advice and might even have a solution you'll enjoy.

Give it another couple of years/decades and you should be more worried about your reflexes and (mouse/keyboard/controller)agillity to keep up with the speed in games :D.

While at times wearing glasses can be annoying, most of the time you won't even notice them, at least that's the case with this old bugger ;).

Been wearing glasses for a long time. Get the anti-glare feature. I get my optometrist to give me a regular all around prescription and a prescription for Computer Glasses. You can tell them how far you sit from the monitor and they can prescribe the perfect lenses. It doesn't have to be exact as there is a range of several inches either way. It's worth having a second pair for gaming to me.

And to day they come with ZOOM! HAHAHA.

You adapt to them get used to them over time, as you do putting them down in a rush and cleaning them as you will learn finger prints look terrible ha.

I just wish i went with x3, but i am far sighted so.

You'll be fine mate. Eventually, glasses become second nature to you.

This may come as a surprise to you but I am actually quite visually impaired. I have very strong myopia. I have extreme difficulty seeing more than a foot in front of me without my glasses, and I'm so bloody nearsighted that up close, I actually do better without my glasses. I can see even the tiniest details on things up close...
