Foxconn admitted to employing interns as young as 14 years, in what is a breach of labor laws in China, where the minimum age for such employment is 16. The company, in a statement accessed by CNET advised that it found the matter "not only a violation of China's labor law, it is also a violation of Foxconn policy," and that "immediate steps have been taken to return the interns in question to their educational institutions." The company launched an investigation and promises action against permanent staff members who allowed the breach in regulations to happen. This development follows a strain of bad PR for Foxconn, which recently suffered riots in some of its facilities due to imposition of strict quality standards in manufacture of iPhone 5.

oh foxconn

Someone needs to post up a list of all the companies who use Foxconn so we can shop accordingly. I know it's not just Apple.

most motherboard designs come from them so if we boycott we pretty much screwed on that end, same with controller ICs too

Well at that age they dont get the concept of taking their own life so better for Foxconn?

I think everyone needs to grow up and realize Malthusian Theory is finally coming to blossom, x amount of humans y amount of resources = not adding up.

According to wikipedia their major customers that have their products built by Foxconn in these factories include:

Acer Inc.
Amazon.com
Apple Inc.
Cisco
Dell
Hewlett-Packard
Intel
Microsoft
Motorola Mobility (Now owned by Google)
Nintendo
Nokia
Samsung Electronics
Sony
Toshiba
Vizio

So in one way or another I'd argue we all own something from Foxconn facilities. Even if your motherboard wasn't made by them, odds are your router was and it seems Sony still contracts the PS3 production through Foxconn. The vast majority of iOs and Android smart phones seem to come through their facilities as well.

3 words say it all.
MADE IN CHINA!

Nothing like having children building things for your company. I just wonder how many are getting molested. This is just beyond the pail! I hope this company gets fined so hard it has to close it's doors! Time to take out the fucking trash!

AS far as i remember almost all motherboards used foxconn parts as in i think even ASUS still uses foxconn for there PCI-E and PCI ports actully almost all connections on most mothermoards are made by foxconn

considering the wide spread poverty in china why is the government preventing teenagers from working to provide for their family?

Some motherboards CPU sockets are made by Foxconn if I remember well.

Unfortunately Foxconn is so big it's almost impossible to have a computer without supporting them in one way or another.

"China: Foxconn has 13 factories in nine Chinese cities, more than in any other country.[20]

Foxconn's largest factory worldwide is in Longhua, Shenzhen, where hundreds of thousands of workers (varying counts include 230,000,[16] 300,000,[21] and 450,000[22]) are employed at the Longhua Science & Technology Park, a walled campus[6] sometimes referred to as "Foxconn City"[23] or "iPod City".[24] Covering about 1.16 square miles (3 square km),[25] it includes 15 factories,[23] worker dormitories, a swimming pool,[26] a fire brigade,[6] its own television network (Foxconn TV),[6] and a city centre with a grocery store, bank, restaurants, bookstore and hospital.[6] While some workers live in surrounding towns and villages, others live and work inside the complex;[27] a quarter of the employees live in the dormitories, and many of them work up to 12 hours a day for 6 days each week."

I wanna go to foxconn city one day, I bet its just like foxconn says it is, everyone walks around with their I LOVE FOXCONN shirts with a smile, like Disneyland + hard labor:roll:

Foxconn is a bunch of liars. I think they should be fined dramatically and sensible corporations should start winding down their business with them. Image is everything when it comes to business

Let's all lynch Foxconn for employing 14 year olds, forget all the Indian sweat shops which employ scores of preteens or the child sex slave trade which is rife throughout the middle east and Europe, not forgetting child brides that are married away everyday to pedrobears old enough to be their grandfathers in numerous muslim states, this is where it's at.

Let's not over exagerate, they admitted to employing workers "as young as 14" IMO in less developed, wealthy nations if a 14 year old wants to go out and support their family and work for a living there are a lot worse ways they could be doing this.

And no offense, but as if anyone is surprised, this is China, as if you all think they respect child working laws and human rights, seriously...

God that sounds like every US mil base in existance. Should close those down too.

And why should people continue to buy overpriced Apple hardware? If you do, you are as good as supporting them with this type of workplace abuse.

Guess what happened if Apple was manufacturing there products in North America and/or Great Britain? The prices we pay today would remain the same. This concludes cheap outsourcing to 3rd world countries makes absolutely no difference with what we pay for the products.

It only means they are taking in a dump load more profits while exploiting hard working people. IMO....

Well, isn't that nice? It's corporate policy to obey the law.... :p
