[Editor's note: We have posted a review of Fractal Design Torrent Black RGB TG Light Tint Case here.]

The Torrent is a brand new high-performance PC case devoted entirely to providing premium airflow straight out of the box. The attention to detail is reflected in everything from the choice of components to the streamlined design inside and out, and the result is a case that goes further than any previous Fractal case in the pursuit of ultimate airflow.

When it comes to technical innovations, the main standouts include a brand-new component layout, the open front grille and two 180 x 38 mm Dynamic PWM or Prisma RGB fans custom-made to achieve maximum air cooling while maintaining controlled noise levels. The Torrent ships with another three 140 mm fans (Dynamic or Prisma for RGB) pre-installed for a total of five. (Fun fact: if you're a really big fan of airflow, you can get an additional pair of 180 mm Dynamic/Prisma fans separately and replace the 140 mms for a total of four massive 180 mm fans.)

Simply put, Torrent is a powerhouse that lets you enjoy top-tier cooling straight out of the box, with strong radiator support to boot. This makes it a perfect match for high-end users who demand the very best from components and cases alike.

Key features:
  • Open grille and 180 mm front fans optimized for maximum air intake
  • Newly developed 180 x 38 mm Dynamic X2 PWM or Prisma AL PWM ARGB fans (in the RGB version) leverage power, size, and thickness for massive air-moving capacity
  • Includes five PWM fans (three 140 mm and two 180 mm) for balancing performance, cooling and noise
  • New layout with expansive base intakes and extra-large bottom fan support offers exceptional GPU cooling
  • Optional front and bottom nylon filters included, allowing the user to prioritize between dust filtering or even higher airflow
  • Streamlined open interior provides plenty of breathing room for components and maximizes performance potential for both air and water cooling
  • Comes with the new Nexus 9P Slim PWM fan hub pre-installed
  • Fans and LED lights fully controllable through motherboards supporting addressable RGB (3-pin 5V header)
  • GPU support bracket that helps your GPU stay level (user assembled, instructions included)
  • Comes with external cable straps for tidying up behind your computer

180 mm Dynamic/Prisma fans
The 180 mm Dynamic/Prisma fans that drive the Torrent are also available separately, expanding options for owners of other cases as well as Torrent users set on maxing out their new case by running four 180 mm fans.

For more information, see Dynamic 180 and Prisma 180.

Ion+ 2 Platinum
Also worth mentioning on the topic of new releases: the much appreciated PSU Ion Platinum receives a welcome update in with its new incarnation Ion+ 2 Platinum. The update adds ATX 2.52 support to an already long list of benefits like whisper-quiet operation, enhanced cable flexibility and superior output quality. Among other noteworthy improvements: the inclusion of two 8-Pin ATX12/EPS across the whole family, and internal upgrades like more strict over-current protection.

At least it comes with five fans and a fan hub.

Great, more dust to clean.
Or you know, it's caught in the dust filters.
I have very little dust in my case these days, it seems to be mostly caught in the dust filters.

There's nothing new about using 180mm x 38mm fans Silverstone have been doing it for years in their FT and RV series of cases

I am stuck on the colour.. my last two Fractal cases have been white, but I kind of want it in black.

It is new for Fractal though. Does everyone have to be first or it doesn't count?

How many people run that ss case? I see almost no builds using it.

when they use language like
Newly developed 180 x 38 mm
when it's nothing of the sort

I'm still using my RV02 through 5 builds now because it's big has plenty of HDD space and loads of air throughput and I don't have to worry about GPU sag as everything hangs from the top down

Do you think Silverstone was the first to release that size? Maybe they copied Delta? I doubt it but just saying they weren’t the first either.

for use in a consumer PC case they probably were but for server racks probably not but who in their right mind would want a 5000rpm 180mm delta fan sitting next to them you'd need some pretty good ear plugs

.. I wouldn’t mind!

As long as it was on a controller.. because I am getting old and I can’t stand the racket like I used to :D

same here just had to get hearing aids a few weeks ago
I'm pretty sure the only two makers of 12V 180mm fans are Silverstone and Enermax all the others that I know of are mains powered for industrial cooling

Well, then you'd be wrong, as SilverStone's fans are 180x32mm... So not the same and clearly something new, if quite similar.
It seems SilverStone also has some 18mm thin 180mm fans.
SilverStone launched these recently.

The big reason why I ditched my 120x38s is that it messes with my tinnitus. I can only block it out so much.

Actually the SST181AP is 36mm so I doubt 2mm is going to make that much of a difference in perf also the Ap184i isn't their first ARGB 180mm fan they had the AP181 ARGB fans but they're no longer available although you can still get the 140mm version the AP142 ARGB which is a shame cause they were quite nice looking fans

Oh yup I get that along with coil whine which does the same damn thing but my HA's do a good job of damping the tinnitus which is great

You sure, they look like 32mm to me. And 32 to 36 is 4mm... In fact, I can't find anything on their website that isn't 32 or 18mm thick, while being a 180mm fan.

I just measured them they're 36mm maybe they've changed the size I've had these for nearly 10 years so who knows

Water cooling in this is going to be god awful if not impossible because of those 180mm fans.

SS's 180 AP's were a PITA with my RV02-BW the fan blades are so weak they literally break themselves.

Not really, when its set up out of the box to be insanely over the top positive pressure.

Positive pressure has almost no chance of dust being in the system unless you take away all the filters for the intake fans.

Design looks nice and clean, typical of Fractal Design. Great stuff. My only complain is the front panel which may be difficult to clean without removing it.

2 of 2 RV02-BW's one being mine V1.0 another being a good friends V2.0 that came with sst181ap fans haven't had that problem happen and I've been running the SST181AP fans nearly since they first came out
