Gainward GeForce GTX 680 Phantom Pictured

After launching its customary reference design GeForce GTX 680 graphics card, Gainward is working on its signature non-reference design, the Phantom. Gainward introduced this design with higher-end GeForce GTX 500 series models. Its concept revolves around an inverted fan-heatsink design, in which the fans are concealed by the aluminum fin array. Instead of blowing fresh air through the aluminum fins, it draws hot air from it, and quickly channels it away from the card. Heat is fed to the aluminum fins, by five 8 mm-thick nickel-plated copper heat pipes. The inverted fan-heatsink design gives the Phantom a nice aesthetic touch. Gainward is still applying finishing touches to its design.

Its looks nice and clean but axial fans were designed to push air rather that pull. I want to see the temps of this card.

This is a comparison review of stock, gainward phantom, and asus directcu II. You can kinda judge how the temps are. Lower than stock, but more than asus, with an overclock. Does this card not have the stacked power connectors?

I guess if they remove the "cover grill" on top of the fans they will maybe get even better temps. And the Phantom cooler is 2.5 slots as opposed to Asus 3 slot one, so it's doing fine.

why not compare this to something like MSI's twin frozr. Asus was in a world of fail ever since they thought 3-slots were "cool"

You can tell when competition is so extreme in a market, companies begin to do just anything different so they can stand away from the pack and gain market share, whether it makes any sense or not doesn’t seem to matter, “as long as it’s different than the others” seems to be the prevailing logic. Which in the long run is a good thing for enthusiasts, realizing now and then you must ward off the inanity.

Hard to beat Asus cooler designs for silence and icy temps! My 6870 fan idles at 15% in auto mode and is as audible as a Noctua 10db fan... Heard the triple slot Asus cards idle at 10%!

Actually, Palit owns Gainward.

IIRC, they use Palit brand for Asian market, and Gainward for US and Europe.

Does anyone agree that this looks like it doesn't have stacked power connectors?
Also I have had both twinfrozrs II and III. They cool well but are by no means quiet under load.

So many complaints about the stacked pwr connectors, they must be a real pain. Is the cooler on the Palit card above a twinfrozrs III? If so how quiet is the cooler at idle? What rpm do the 3fans run at? Thanks!

and although Tom hints at smaller tower cases coming from Caselabs I found an article stating yes they would be producing smaller full and mid-tower chassis this year, in the 249 to 349 range. If anyone wants the link let me know.

I wasnt complaining about the stacked power connectors. I just noticed how it seems that there is a lack of them.
