Galaxy Readies Single-Slot GeForce GTX 470 Graphics Card

Why the difference of "Katana" and "Razor" though? It's not like the former's not in the English dictionary already, unlike for example "Mugen" or "Yasya" from Scythe. And "Katana" sounds better than the already cliche "Razor".

Damn!! That thing looks like it was put together in somebodies garage:twitch:

Now we know where nvidias wood screw inventory went :nutkick:

Hehee, and people thought single slot 8800GT ran hot :p I see this happening with GTX 460 and maybe 465, but this sure was boggling, like btarunr said :)

not that ugly card again!they tried this with the gtx 260,it's time to move on Galaxy!

They are Crazy, after having 2 single-slots cards(ATI 1650 pro and Ati 3850) i swear i will never buy a single-slot card again

At least you could cook at the same time you are playing videogames

You know the 470 runs as hot and sometimes hotter than the 480 in part because the cooler is a downgrade from the 480's... so I can only imagine how hot this thing gets... their only hope is if they undervolt and underclock it.

obviously all of the heat issues have been worked out with these chips if a company like galaxy can successful create a single slot solution.

Has anybody ever seen any of these specialty cards from galaxy for sale anywhere?I never did see thier 260 single slot card for sale on the net or any other special card they made.I think Galaxy is full of crap.

In Asia, Galaxy's sales are double of EVGA+BFG+XFX put together. It's China's leading graphics card vendor, sells well here too.

Post a Etail LINK.I have searched and there is no way to buy one online.they must only sell in stores in china.

I'm not concerned if you don't get it in your country. TPU is an international site. Galaxy is not a lesser known brand, it's a leading NV partner.

I think that has more to do with the slower spinning fan and less airflow then the marginally cut down cooler.

I can buy galaxy in the states too but they never sell any of the specialty cards here. And why when I put the model number for the 260 razor in google do I not get any etail links anywhere in the world?

I see. Maybe because Galaxy reserves those cards for Asian markets, and that most of the sales here happen in ground-stores and not online. Every big Asian city including mine has these computer hardware malls with hundreds of hardware shops.

Well im blaming the internet and cable for showing me stuff all the time that I cannot buy.Anybody getting sick of seeing commercials on cable tv for restaurants you would like to eat at but you cant because the closest one is 500 miles away?lol

Hello all. Sorry for the lack of activities here, has been busy for a while. Thanks to btarunr for the news.

Yes it is using the VC like the 260+ Razor. It's an early engineering sample that's why it looks raw and ugly. I can assure final version will definitly look better. We'll also remove one DVI port to let some of the hot air to blow out from the case.

We're using a speical PCB (480 anyone :)) that is longer to maximize the surface area.

Although I'm not a sales guy I do heard we sell quite well in China in India.. And in US you can buy our cards in stores like BBY. But if you're looking for a high end card you'd better shopping at e-tail like tiger...they have our GTX 470 GC for sale already..

^ If you take away a fixed DVI port could you leave a DVI header on board so that multi-monitor users or modders can utilize it? (like how many low-profile cards are made)

better hope Nvidia dont fuck up their drivers that mess around with fan speeds like it did last time. otherwise partners might be getting a huge influx of RMAs, now that this card is single slot its just twice as lethal. your card will die twice as fast as the fucked up fan rates on your dual slot 285/295

The GTX 260+ Razor was available in the US, though it was also a limitted edition card AFAIK. Though it was available at newegg: Galaxy 26XIF9HM3BUV GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit ...

Tell me about it. I'm tired of hearing/seeing Sonic commercials when the nearest one is a hour drive from my house, the same goes for Cici's Pizza.

Well it still has one DVI plus one HDMI on board and hopefully we will bundle a HDMI to DVI converter for dual DVI usage...

:o

Galaxy has some balls for even trying this :D

Interesting that the images show it having 8+6 power connectors as opposed to 6+6 on the standard GTX 470 - is that because it's using the GTX 480 PCB, or is there potential for some overclocking?

Either way, kudos to Galaxy, seems they are taking a leaf out of Sapphire's book and starting to innovate instead of just releasing the same boring reference design like everyone else - now if only their cards were available in South Africa (hint hint)...

Not a solution that I would go for, but that's just me, and I'm not a considerable percentage of your market.

I have to agree actually. I don't like the weight of the DVI adaptor and the DVI cable hanging off an HDMI port. They just seem too weak to support that.

In all honesty, on a card like this, I'd rather see a DMS-59 single port used, with the dongle for dual DVI or HDMI with another adaptor, and the rest of the slot used to vent the hot air out of the case.
