It happens. You need to try something drastically outside your usual wheelhouse. Might not even be gaming, hard to say.

Sometimes it feels like that, when I haven't really liked a BF game since BF4, and I don't need 9000 hours in that one. So I play some other games, chasing the same feeling BF 1942, BF2, BC2, BF3 and BF4 brought when new. And I also pay more attention to other hobbies and things going on.

It happens. Sometimes it's you, sometimes it's just that the current swath of games aren't really up your alley, sometimes it's a combination. I'd recommend you take a break and explore other hobbies. Nothing says you can't jump right back in if something new comes out that excites you or you start to really miss it.

I'm right there with you on that one. I played a lot of Battlefield:V because it was the closest thing people were playing, but it definitely wasn't the same...especially when they kept breaking the guns that already weren't great. BF:1 drove me nuts with the bullet randomizer they added that made it feel like all the guns were storm trooper blasters. They still have that garbage today. I'm fine with spread and recoil mechanisms and I think bullet drop is correct, but a complete randomizer? no thank you. 2042 shouldn't even be called "Battlefield". Oh do I miss the glory days of DICE.

I'm more of a multiplayer competitive gamer (FPS-types and racers) and the focus is primarily on the score sheet and winning. Repetitive gameplay in this segment does get boring at times but i keep myself engaged by setting targets. For eg. striving for a set K/D ratio. I never get bored!

Although I admit, most single player games or MP story-line based titles get boring quickly. Ive purchased games and ditched em after 40-60% completion - not enough captivating material to keep you going.

Do something meaningful with your life instead.

A lot of art is the same btw. Reality is more streamlined, meaning that tons of stuff is based on the same thing. I blame America, the Internet, and Star Wars.

I'm a couple decades younger and I do also experience dullness of gaming from time to time. Had a 3-year "games are boring" period as well. My ultimate decision is "if you don't like it and you don't need to do it then why are you doing it? Do something else."

Maybe you need a game which cannot be fully researched (complex RTS; roguelike or something); perhaps you need to change your approach (as in completing the Max Payne only using pistols); or you can become a modder. Make something you want that doesn't yet exist.

Taking breaks is fine regardless. You don't need to worry about it, especially if you are happy with your life in overall.

OP you played games like Grim Dawn? ARPG genre? Lots of gems in that genre.

Otherwise yes the best advice.. do something else.

I have a side hobby where I build bluetooth speakers and audio systems in general (Nothing outlandish just an odd interest), I also weight train.

Other than that I don't know what else for ideas, I don't have loads of time.

It happens over the years. I loved the Halflife series, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, the Wolfenstein series, the Homeworld series, the Battlefield series, plus some flight sims, etc. I retired last year mid 60's and don't have the same drive for games as before. I do a lot of movie downloads these days. I also grab a lot of free Epic games now for future download when the drive comes back ( if ever ). Mostly play Bejeweled and Deserts of Kharak these days.

Eh, I need more money for food so I could actually gain mass. Currently, any athletics cause noticeable weight loss because I can't compensate it with enough food thanks to ridiculously fast metabolism. And I can't say I'm fat so this doesn't make me happy about it.

Any advice? What is cheap and helps staying close to 200 lbs?

I’m 45, was into it from 22 to 30 and got bored, and sick of the upgrade cycle. Got into R/C after.. first with Nitro, and when I mastered that I went straight to 6S lipo power. Had kids and everything paused while I struggled. Not struggling anymore and we all have fairly recent hardware. Wouldn’t mind getting another R/C though :D

I lost the will to game throughout my 50's really and unknowingly missed a few gems during that decade, started again when I was 60 so played for the first time the Mass Effect and Dragon Age trilogies and have not really stopped since as I am retired now I have a bit more time.

Just turned 40 recently been gaming since I was 4 ish so 36 years definitely not burnt out but I will say there are far less interesting games to play than there were in the 90s/00s. I think what's helped me from getting burned out is I basically like everything from mainstream stuff like call of duty all the way down to obscure rpgm type indie games it also helps that I have a group of buddies I've gamed with for the past 18 years at least all the way back to Mechassualt and Halo.

I think the key is variety I also love hardware in general and have multiple other hobbies and my wife liking to game as well definitely helps a ton.

I'm only 34/been playing since my elementary school years with no long breaks.
I've started experiencing something similar lately, I mean I still game but I don't really have the mood/interest to play for more than 1-3 hours/day and there are days when I'm not gaming at all or only play a mobile game. 'I'm a variety gamer except for competitive games since I don't like those'

Depends on what your goals are, personally I've picked up calisthenics 'own body weight training'+light weight lifting at home during the covid lockdowns and that worked out for me as a side hobby and I'm still somewhat doing it when I can.
Sure this wont build you big muscles in general but for me its enough to keep me in a decent-ish shape and feel a bit better about myself, etc. 'I'm not a big dude so my current ~150 lbs is about normal for my size'
In my case I've actually had to drop my body weight/fat % since I've used to be borderline fat 5+ years ago and I did not like that at all. 'I'm mainly eating home made food but even then I can gain weight easily if I don't watch it..'

Mostly to make me convincing again. I lost a lot of mass due to sicknesses so I feel kinda pathetic. Used to be around 88 to 90 kg (I see you're from Europe xD) and now I'm below 80 kg. Height is almost 190 cm. I wasn't fat, I was fit. Now I'm just teenager level slim once again. Don't know how to bring my mass (but most importantly, strength) back considerably fast, calories seem to burn like it's still puberty.

I've had game burnout for some years. Probably about 6. Couldn't get into anything. COD used to be great fun. Bored. Street Fighter 6 I thought would make me into a gamefreak like 30 years ago. Nope, too complex and my hands aren't what they used to be. Then I got Forza Motorsport. Didn't play it much at first, then I started getting into it...

I...can appreciate the logic. Let me ask you a few more things:
1) Has it become dull to watch movies, because 10 minutes in you can predict the arc?
2) Had it become depressing to watch TV because 5 minutes into a 20 minute show that takes 30 minutes you're bored and can see the arc?
3) Is it the mechanics of the game that are boring...or is it the outcome?

I'm not 50 yet...but I read comic books from the 70's in the 90's (gotta love the cover price being under a dollar). I lost whimsy for the Marvel Cinematic Universe before Infinity War...because I was still waiting for Adam Warlock and Pip. I think they forgot that particularly....insensitive depiction and just decided to go with the Avengers. Likewise, I remember the Micronauts and their shrunken universe...and the Acroyear calling himself Acroyear because the 70's was hard-up for creativity when Bug and Devil were other members of that band.

My semi-rambling point is that once you consume enough media you see the patterns. The hero's journey, the archetypes, and the core models are stripped bare. Sometimes the result is that you need to take time off, and enjoy something else. I recommend trying to learn a coding language, or taking up a destructive hobby. My favorite of the later was flying RC planes...because none of them lasted long before gravity matched against hubris and the former won. It's not about what you do, but that you are invested into creating something. You'd be surprised how much that lets you forget patterns....because when you made your thing you copied those same plans and patterns. It's then easier to turn off that recognition and appreciate execution instead of ideas and originality...and you need that when corporate entertainment seeks to repackage things constantly.

used to play a ton of online fps, but since the invasion of cheaters/cookie-cutter knockoffs/free-to-pay, Ive given up

single player games these days are mostly console ports with some inexplicable unintelligent design issue or game-breaking bugs that makes me throw up my hands in frustration as I hit nth wall on yet-another game! the last game I finished was crosscode, and that was several years ago
