XpertVision is Palit's European VGA graphics cards brand. Only recently they released an announcement that the brands will merge again to become "Palit Microsystems Ltd.".

At the show we saw several new ATI based cards from Palit. Since their booth is located in the AMD hall, no NVIDIA cards were on display.

First up is the new Palit HD 4870 which does not use the AMD reference design. The cooler is equipped with two fans and is much quieter than the normal cards. The HD 4870 Sonic Dual features DisplayPort and a Turbo switch which allows you to change the clock frequencies on the fly. When in "Turbo" mode, the card runs at 775/1000 and 750/950 in "Normal" mode. Even in normal mode this is still an overclock over the AMD reference clocks.

The Palit HD 4850 Sonic is for the smaller wallet but still offers improvements. For example an 8-pin power connector is used instead of the usual 6-pin one. It also has a quieter fan and higher clocks than the AMD reference edition cards.

Last but not least, this "Gold Edition" card is basically a HD 4850 reference design board but with an improved cooler - at almost no cost. The clocks on this model are the reference design frequencies.

I love my Palit 8800GT, although the fan's kinda whiny at high speed. These are some sexy cards.

aw man i need that palit HD 4870 so badly, sure my xpertvison 8800gt is good but it makes a bit of noise infact i can here it all the time, sure not as bad when in games but still i need a more powerful gpu coz om getting crap frames and i need it to be quieter

my case is quiet when the gpu is not spinning so i know its the gpu, heck my case is the NZXT Tempest with 6 120mm fans so youd expect it to be louder than the card

EDIT: id sure have that card on at trubo most of the time, id only have it at normal when i was just going on for a few mins or just to watch a dvd or summit

This is awesome ATi/Palit cards! sweet!
I love that 4870!

turbo mode increases the clock 25mhz, its a nice feature but it sounds pretty useless to me unless the frequency can be changed

Definitely will sell my current 4850 and trade it for a non-ref 4850 :)

"Gold Edition" is just the cooler thats on the 8800gt but tweaked id rather go for something new

That turbo looks shmexy.. Too bad my psu doesnt have a 8 pin tho :ohwell:

What I'm curious with is that little OC switch...if you could modify the OC side of the switch for higher clocks...that could actually be a little more useful imo.

might be able to change it with a bios editor. but im not sure?

what i want to know is if you switch do you have to restart or switch when the pc is off

it will be useful if you want to keep a back up bios incase a flash wont boot

my guess is that you have to switch when the computer is off, or at least it wont take affect until your restart.

I love the turbo button on the card, very nice. Not to mention I got a stiffy just looking at Palits cards. These will definitely be the brand for me to go with when I Get my 4870.

maybe fiddling with the bios will let u use that function for loading up a benchmark profile with a high clock/voltage?

so it could still be useful, tho its easier just to oc via wiondows without having to reach for a switch

good thing there are no robot frogs in sight ;D

It uses 2 independant BIOSes. Very handy feature. You can mod the crap out of one of the BIOSes, and still have a stock one to fall back on in case something goes wrong.

I really wish the 4850 Sonic had that feature.

i like the slot of speed , and good point for ati , that's mean more sales for ati , and we see now Palit and after that evga , maybe xfx thinking about it

Always good to see something original out there for once. GG, palit.

I'm very interested in that 4870 to replace my 8800GTS 640MB (G80), i hope it wont be too pricey and readily available soon.

Is there going to be a 1GB variant?

A BIOS mod would probably do that, I would quite like to have a play with it if someone who gets the card would send me the dumped BIOS for it.......that might make me buy a HD4870!

Any word on when the 4870 will hit the Egg?

why no cooling for the power and memory
