Ah yes, W1zzard, the german who often jokes about USA being a third-world country, truly a wholesome American patriot running an American website.

He is also missing the whole 8K part, which is kind of important. I know DLSS glazing is all the rage nowadays, not without reason, but running “8K” with a Balanced upscaler is not really running 8K now, is it?

A good chunk of the mods are 'murican however.

"but running “8K” with a Balanced upscaler is not really running 8K now, is it?" - from a performance perspective, no, but from a visual quality aspect, yes it is. At 8k there is no discernible visual difference between native and dlss, unlike at lower resolutions.

I don't blame @Onasi too much. No one can see the future, tbh. I didn't expect Nvidia to pull a 512-bit card out of their hat either, especially since we haven't seen a 512-bit high-end GPU since AMD Hawaii (R9 290X), released in 2013 (R9 390X/Grenada is just VRAM doubled Rebrandeon). Both vendors stopped at 384-bit for flagships ever since, as there are considerable engineering requirements for 512-bit cards that makes them very expensive to manufacture.

For a while, AMD even regressed into a 256-bit bus assisted by cache with Navi 21, which resulted in a quite balanced GPU which was the 6900 XT and Nvidia put their own spin on that, which was the 4080 - a design choice that lives on in the 5080 today. The specs may look paltry on paper, but the hardware utilization in all three of these tends to be pretty much near 100% without scaling issues, the same can't be said for the AD102 and GB202 chips above them.
Navi 21 definitely had scaling issues from 1440p to 4k and that's the reason for Navi 31 they went back to 384-bit and reduced the infinity cache (L3) size from 128mb on the 6900 XT / 6950 XT to 96mb on the 7900 XTX.

You do know what a joke is, right?

No, it isn't. It's a close approximation, but it's not the same as 8k.

Gotta love keyboard warriors - previously claimed that you can't see a difference between 4k and 8k, then claim you can see a difference between 8k native and dlss. Fact is that you have seen neither 8k native or dlss...

This is true, and this is also an issue the RTX 4080 and RTX 5080 share. They fall off at 1440 > 4K much faster than the 3090 Ti and 7900 XTX do, something you can verify with any set of reviews. However, it's not due to scaling, but rather, starvation of resources. Cache only makes up for lost real bandwidth up to a certain point. The 5090's generous 96MB L2 and 1.8TB/s memory bandwidth should make it excel at holding frame rates at high resolutions. Might even have an honest crack at 8K.

Oh, more pedantic name-calling. How delightful. Gotta love people who can't win the argument and resort to this..

I don't need to see it native to understand the math involved. And for the record, YOU haven't seen 8k native either.

I just call it for what it is - you're always going at it.

Wauw, you can pixel count? How amazing.

Ofc, you totally know what i have or don't have. I got a samsung qn900c tv, which is... you guessed it, 8k. But ty for admitting that you haven't seen 8k and thus talking out of your arse.

Oh joy, more pedantic nonsense.

Pictures, with your user name in frame, or you're lying. Prove up buttercup.
EDIT: And no AI shenanigans either.

Lol, sure i will post a pic. Kinda pathetic though that you can't believe someone has an 8k tv, which isn't anymore expensive than a halo gpu - but perhaps says more about your situation.

Considering that they are very rare in the wild, no, not pathetic. Prove up. You want to call me a liar, I can return the favor, Dragam1337. Let's see your magic 8k TV with a 4090 connected to it.

Not really, and it's just a tv (albiet a very good one), which i paid less for than for my 4090... easy to get good deals on tv's. And for the record, i didn't call you a liar, i said you were talking out of your arse, with nothing to base it on aside of what you have read / heard, which is true. You on the other hand were / are calling me a liar - i don't know why i'm even entertaining anything you said, but here you go...

It scares me that I can buy 2 of these at 65 inch or even 2 55 inch G4's for the price of I paid on my 5090 and still have.. idk enough to buy a PS5 Pro

In retrospect, maybe I am just insane and out of my royal mind

Yeah that 5090... what can i say, for the first time ever i've been put off from doing a gpu upgrade to the new halo card - first and foremost it can't be bought where i live, but prices are also obscene, and i refuse to support nvidia's current trajectory (even if i easily could, just as i bough 5x 4090s). And that's just the price - then there is the whole lack of quality control, and big risk of melting connectors with a 600w gpu on that tiny sh1tty connector. They gotta get their act together, pure and simple.

As for the tv, yeah, i got it on 50% off as i bought it while they were clearing stock to prepare for the new model. Miniscule differences between gens in tv's, so i was pretty pleased.
