LOL no, but the autoOC will probably just add a 200MHz boost offset, so 5.5GHz all-core turbo at stock becomes 5.7GHz all-core which is going to be comically power-hungry.

I might get the popcorn ready for when Gigabyte release their Z790 boards and the streamers/reviewers start crying because their test benches use AIOs for convenience. I've yet to see any AIO that can properly tame a 300W 12900KS, so 5.7GHz all-core should be entertaining.

but have you heard of turbo ratio ? you can set 6g for only two cores and leave 5.5g for the rest so in r23 multi you can still have 5.5g for all 8 cores just like default.

Yeah, the infamous A3-5 button!

Hi,
Giga missed that intel killed it's oc policies, what do they care they don't warranty cpu's they barely warranty their products
Completely normal phenomenon.

So it's a bomb.
There is VRM on the roof!

I need 13900k asap. It's winter very soon in Europe and I need more space heater than my 4090. 13900k whit 6 ghz is perfect for that part. Zen 3 is to cold and efficiently to be a space heater:p

I mean, to be fair, 300W is still a pretty weak space heater. 750W together with that GPU and you're getting somewhere though! OC both and you'd probably hit 1kW.

Hhahahaha!

You know at one time those intel fans did actually work. I have one with a full copper core in the middle and it kept things rather cool. Then later they got cheap and made a partial copper core (it looked like a copper circle with a copper bar in the middle). Then finally they went full on alllluuuuuummmmiiiinnnuuuuummmm So they can give you that icronic sound known as the BRRRRRRR. Hhahahahaha. Ahhnnn the memories. :)

Calling underperfoming cores "E cores" was genius, whoever came up with that idea is prolly Employee of the Decade by now LOL

It's going to sucker in morons. And it's going to cause a lot of people to think this is an all core thing. Which will lead to said morons either trying to do all cores, or stomping their feet when they realize it's not. It's also still going to overheat and cause issues as it is. There's nothing about this that is not idiot and primed for fail and bad.

As was perfectly said by a wise person

This is going to be a shit show....

The C2Q stock cooler use to be a bit more massive too compared to generations after that just shrunk and shrunk and shrunk until it was a flat pancake in later generations. They just kept getting shorter and shorter with smaller node shrinks. At some stage Intel is just going to mount a small fan on the IHS itself and call that the cooler for a Celeron.

You jest but in a lot of industrial applications that is what happens. I'm general administration/engineering IT now but I used to deal with heavy industry and fans are a no no. If you can't passively cool it in outrageous situations it's a fail. If it must have a fan it must only go on at certain times and then be able to turn off. The future has really always been more passive platforms and all the lifting is done remotely but with less latency then we have now. We aren't there yet but we will be there.

I cannot imagine temps with this settings... hardcore users won't use the auto mode. Auto mode it's for noobs and noobs will not take care of his temps and CPU will throttle. I only see this as bad setting option...
You don't even need to go to bogus 6 GHz. Thermal throttling has been observed and measured in Cyberpunk already during 13900K reviews.
Screenshot 2022-10-20 at 19-37-30 Hot and Hungry - Intel Core i9-13900K Review - YouTube.png

Outside of gaming, in more MT workloads, the i9 is quickly able to hit 100 C and runs at risk of throttling. This requires 360 mm AIO.

Auto OC to 6GHz is going to be hillarious.
I wonder how many people will RMA their boards because their socket melted.

View attachment 266528

You see how it flatlines past 300W and adding more power results in next to nothing? Yeah reaching 6GHz is going to be a 500W job, most likely.

So, if you extrapolate the CB R23 results, a 6GHz OC might get the 13900K 40,750 points. Meanwhile, a 7950X is getting 94% at likely just one third the power draw. It may no longer be the fastest consumer CPU, but the 7950X sure as hell is a better CPU for consumers. For a 6GHz 13900K you're going to need a custom loop with two large radiators, a high-flow CPU block, oversized tubing throughout, and a powerful pump, if not two pumps in series. Suddenly the cost of the CPU and motherboard are irrelevant because you need to spend $1500 and a few days of your time on the cooling alone.

They screwed up hard with this slide, they trimmed it from the video

Its funny how things that were old come back in fashion again :)

Rigs that can pull 800w+ at the wall might be commonplace again.

The last time I was able to pull 800w at the wall was with X5690 and GTX 570 SLi all running F@H.

Thats full load, not even playing a game :D
