Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Theres a motherboard section this likely fits in...but just ask the question...staff can move it (report your own post amd ask it to be moved).

I got this mobo rom a lost storage and i managed to pick up a 500w new psu, a i7 920 and some 8gb compatible ram and tried o fire it up and i just got cristmas tree light all over the board and post code 88 for a 2 seconds and then shuts down with only power and cmos button lights on.
Tried to fire it up with power button but no avail, only disconeting and reconecting psu and fires right up with same issue.
Tried some combinatios to see if it changes something but it only got worse. Now it onli has the power aod cmos lights on with PSU atatched and nothing else happens. is ti dead? any sujestions? thanks in advance.

What psu? Tried a different psu.
What ram? One stick? Three?
Tried resetting the cmos?

I would start by checking the power connectors to the CPU. Normally 4 pin but in your case it should be a 8 pin connector. Also check if your board needs auxiliary power eg. a molex connectors on the board.

The psu is a recent coolermaster 500w, i only have one stick of ram in the white slot near the cpu and tried reseting cmos (i think i did it right, must check post #6), the psu has the 2x4 12v conector in place. As for the auxiliary power i dont know what does it mean so im still trying to solve this without sending it for repair. I just liked to know if it has any salvation.

EDIT: i dont have any case avaliable for this monster, only for microATX :)),
EDIT2: and i know the psu is good, it works on another computer.

When you say 2x4... that is the one by the CPU... what about the 20+4? Are these seated properly?

Is the white slot the slot memory should be in when only running a single stick (not a good idea btw... you will lose performance there)? Confirm this in your manual which slot a single stick of RAM should be in.

Also check if your board needs auxiliary power eg. a molex connectors on the board.
These are typically for mGPU setups.

All the connectors are seated properly, even without anything on the board it does not do anything.
can it be lack of power?
can it be a corrupted bios?

EDIT: saw someone say its lack of gpu? can it be it? i have one but i dont know if it works...

So the PSU works in another machine... cool. Should work here. It isn't a lack of power.

Confirm what slot a single stick of memory should go in through the manual...

i dont think thats the problem but i will check

check here, it says on ddr3_1, its the white one nearest to the cpu, where mine is.

It says DDR3_1 or DDR3_3... try both...If you have another memory stick that will work, try that one too.

But brotha... feels like this thing is junk. Sorry. Not even sure i'd take it into a shop. Its going to cost you twice as much as getting another motherboard..

i will keep trying other options, some shops here do a free budget for repairs.

anyone else got any advice? thanks

The thing is that it started with some action from the board and now it does nothing. Can it be BIOS/CMOS issue?

It can be... but who knows...the symptoms don't really pinpoint much.

If it has a dual BIOS, logic says to try the other, sure!

But since you can't seem to get into the BIOS in the first place, unless the board has a switch not sure how you can try the other BIOS (check the manual) or flash it.

Got some update about my board and i think i got the guilty chips, although i dont know what they are. I started over from scratch, hoocked everything tightly, conected the power and nothing. Started to get nuts and banged the cpu cooler and she came alive again as the first time, all leds lid up and 88 post error, alive for about 5 seconds, even the hard drive kicked started and it died. Didnt manage to bring her back to live again.

I did find 2 chips on the board that were blazing hot, it almost burnt my finger, and noticed that their surface had some sort of hole in them. Perhaps these chips are fried might guess. I posted some photos of them 2. One near the power button, another near the pci-ex slots.

Sujestions?

The holes dont mean much but it looks like a couple of those have bulges/bubbles/blister on them.

Junk board is junk.

Those chips are suppose to be hot. Code 88 is a generic error.

Install just a single RAM, take off the CMOS battery for a few minutes, and try again.

Like as they cannot be touched? It seems wierd that they are the only ones with irregular surface. I only have one ram but i will try.

What are their function? Do you know?

As long as pin's aren't bent, likely needs a CMOS reset or RAM replacement

No they're not. Nothing should be getting that hot other than the CPU & NB. Likely a sign that they have a dead short. Especially since it looks like they've blown up.
Hard to tell for sure though without probing them with a DMM.
