So you're saying Intel actually used the same socket for more than 1 gen?!!??!?!?!?!?!
 
@mechtech 14nm has been around since Skylake btw. 11900K might drop tonight or on April Fool's Day due to NDA.
 
Since 2010 Intel has never had 1 gen per socket. That's 11 years ago.
Better to think of it as four generations of motherboard per CPU now ;)
Z170 for Skylake
Z270 for a Skylake using a new marketing name.
Z390 for Skylake with two extra cores
Z490 for Skylake +++ and also the "10-core Skylake Yield Problems Marketing Stunt Edition."
