I for my part can reproduce this bug on a DDR4 configuration as well (older PC).

Added to my signature.

Tried this idea with no success on all my 3 affected machines - unfortunately.
Hi,
Actually enabling pointer trails wasn't a suggestion it was a question asking if the weird feature was being used by anyone.

Feb 14th, Today's new updates: Win11 22H2 update 22621.1265, Microsoft Office ver2301 Build 16026.20200. STILL NO CHANGE! This horrendous bug continues! Microsoft's updates continue to fix all kinds of obscure bugs, but never a mention of this one. When this bug first surfaced back in September of last year, I never would have imagined that it would still be unfixed by Mid-February, 2023. And Microsoft still appears to have no awareness of it. (Call them yourself, if you want to verify that they remain oblivious.) This is shocking, but true! I am beginning to wonder if this terrible bug will EVER be fixed. So, I ask a question here for those on this forum: What chance to you give it that exactly one year hence, February of 2024, this bug will still remain unfixed and Microsoft will still be oblivious to it? What do you think?

Interesting! Thanks for sharing and helping out here.

My thesis on your config:

1: No glitching due to iGPU
2: No glitching due to Office version 2016

Although I still do not know what causes the problem with garbled text, etc., when using MS 365 "Click to Run" Word & Outlook, I am quite sure the problem completely disappears when I click "Disable Device" for my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti video card (and reappears when I re-enable it). Thus, until something better comes along, this is what I intend to do (except for those times when I truly need the video card). For what it may be worth, I recently spent over an hour with some so-called techs at MS, and I sent them a link to this forum to convince them I was not imagining the problem, and that others have it as well. FYI, I have a DELL desktop XPS 8900, widescreen curved Dell monitor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti card, Windows 11, and an annual subscription to Microsoft 365 ("Click-to-Run").

I have a Logitech MX Ergo mouse, but the problem remained after switching to a cheap Dell mouse. I 'believe' I have eliminated the following: keyboards, mice, BIOS, type of cable used for monitor, and updates for the video card driver (however, I have not yet tried swapping out my video card). I have also performed uninstalls and reinstalls of MS 365, including a time-consuming tedious manual uninstall (for which the MS-provided instructions are obsolete, since they are for Windows 10, and not Windows 11), followed by a re-install, to no avail. I have also tweaked countless settings in Word, and elsewhere on my PC.

Although it is probably already obvious to some - it does also seem to me that the problem lies somewhere with MS 365 (with streaming "Click-to-Run") or the video card, or maybe the combination of the two; which means each pointing the finger at the other. As a matter of fact, a Dell technical representative said just this, that if it were a hardware problem, it would not be limited to MS 365 Word & Outlook. One other point, I have seen several people comment on various forums that reinstalling Windows 11 did NOT correct the issue (a Dell representative suggested I do this, and I am glad I refused his suggestion, because that would be a heckuva lot of work, and down-time, with the risk of new issues).

Same here, glitching goes away but then Office 365 is software rendered and so rather slow (for me).

Thanks a lot! Awesome! More visibility at the right place.

I have eliminated the following
Same, did all you did with no success - even switched the dGPU with no success. AMD is affected as well.

which means each pointing the finger at the other
How convenient :/ But on the other hand Nvidia recently fixed a Discord bug (within days) which was introduced by Discord.

reinstalling Windows 11 did NOT correct the issue
Confirmed: did this excerise on two differnt machines multiple times. Even a 100% fresh & pure W11 22H2 installation (no installs except Office 365) doesn't prevent the glitch.

Disabling the driver in device manager works which is a great diagnostic step - now to figure out what's different between those stages

It's AMD and Nvidia, so i'd think more along the lines of a windows feature like one of these, that intel IGP's don't support (and older graphics drivers wont support either since they're newish features)

The Flip presentation model could be something to look into, as office could be mistake for a windowed 3D game (On freesync/Gsync displays, FPS/refresh rate changes?)

@Mussels
  • I completely agree with this direction searching the root cause, there must be something wrong very deeply hidden in the Windows / Office render or energy management engine
  • Unfortunately deactivating "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling" + "Optimizations for windowed games" does not solve the glichting on my W11 22H2 machines (Windows 10 doesn't have these options as far as I know and suffers the same glitching)
  • Additionally I tested a non GSync screen on my existing machines: still glitching (which can be software video screencasted and so it shouldn't be monitor related)
  • Also I tested all available graphics (incl. refresh rates, resolutions) options within the Nvidia control center (without success) - I was hoping that energy related gpu driver options would help but they didn't

Have you tried a few different refresh rates/resolutions?

May not be something you have access to, but could be involved

I don't want to rise your hopes up, but I need other testers of old solution I've found here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...nd-lines/ba37aba0-48a9-4d1d-be5a-240bcb05340d

See Elena Peskars last post.

I've unchecked every option in File>Account>Account Privacy>Manage Settings and didn't encountered glitch in few hours of writing.

I'm using PC with i7-12700K, RTX 3080 and Windows 11. Before this fix glitches appeared almost constantly and my cursor was blinking weirdly. Now typing is again smooth, sentences and UI elements don't overlap. I'm not 100% shure that this is it, but maybe it's worth trying.

It could well be that the suggested solution helps (although I don't know exactly what useful features are disabled when disabling the suggested options). At least in Outlook I haven't experienced any glitches anymore when writing an email.

Hi - am I glad I found this thread!
I don't have much to add other than to say that I first experienced this problem a few months ago after I bought a whole new PC setup (Dell 8950, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX 3080, Win11 22H2, Acer Predator X34GS monitor) in September last year - so around about the time that this bug was first reported. I've had this issue ever since and wondered whether it was something related to my new hardware (video card or monitor) but very relieved to find that it probably isn't.
To concur with other users - it *only* affects Office programs (Office365 in my case). I've tried different refresh rates and resolutions, disabling Gsync, most of what's been suggested here, but nothing has fixed the problem.
I don't have an option to disable 'optional connected experiences' (maybe that's only in a corporate environment) but disabling *all* connected experiences broke OneNote, so that's no good. I've disabled unneccessary animations and enabled small mouse trails (as suggested earlier) and will report back with my findings.
(Edit - nope. None of the above made any difference at all)
Sorry I couldn't add any more helpful info but I'm glad I'm not alone.
Thanks.

One thing that may be worth noting, the corruption always happens at or near the point where I'm editing or entering text. No issues with previously entered text. So could there be a conflict of some kind with the mouse or keyboard drivers?

I wonder if this is related to white 1 pixel width line I get under "[Search | Copy]" box, after selecting section of text in Opera browser (side note : I currently have RX 570 GPU installed).

Text line.jpg

This is at 1080p resolution on native 4k screen (no scaling on Windows side, Opera window zoom [+175%]).
Also, this line doesn't exists on screenshots I take - sounds familiar ?

Honestly, I don't really care either way, since this is basicly near invisible to me at the distance I view things from.
But I still wanted to point it out a possible clue on Office problem.

Time marches on! March 1st, 2023... I remain unreasonably hopeful and optimistic that perhaps by March 1, 2024 (one year hence) Microsoft will have become aware of this bug and fixed it. After all, hope springs eternal!
