After finishing this game it left me kind of, meh, wondering if it's even worth it to fill out the 100% complete requirements and replay missions to get gold or try the alternate options in some of them. Just didn't seem to have the epic missions GTA IV did.
It's also slow and awkward in movement and gunplay. It feels downright geriatric compared to GTA IV and Max Payne 3. In GTA IV's Three Leaf Clover heist, the swift running pace you can use between battle points is very reminiscent of the movie it's derived from, Heat.
I really thought a lot of the negative comments seemed overblown, esp when I read the heists would be planned and prepared for with tiered missions, and have optional ways of doing them, but it really doesn't add to the feel of satisfaction for me. I'd rather the heists themselves just be better.
My first moments of worry were way back when a lot of the post launch user comments indicated it was kinda, well, boring to play compared to other titles in the franchise, and now I see why many said that. It's as if most playing and raving about it are speaking of the mp vs sp.
So I went in a bit skeptical, but I never thought after finishing them I'd be more inclined to replay titles like The Evil Within and The Old Blood. GTA V plays like a dysfunctional soap opera with Michael and Trevor constantly bitching, while Franklin plays referee, and most of the missions are so casual it's as if they're an equal alternative to bingo.
You know when some of your more enjoyable moments are things you ad lib, like doing Josh's real estate mission with a mt bike, bunny hopping and natural dirt ramp jumping obstacles between the houses, there's something wrong. Add to that two whole years extra development time for the PC version, with a very buggy condition at launch, much of which STILL hasn't been fixed, and I have to wonder why this title netted them such huge profits.
I guess it's that a lot of people have "Rockstar on the brain", as if everything they do is golden. I used to be one of them, not anymore. The only thing they can redeem themselves with at this point as far as I'm concerned is a Max Payne 4 that does justice to it's predecessor, because apparently GTA has gone the common way of graphics over gameplay.
