GTX 1660: Show RT Support as On or Off?

There is no Tesla class cards that work with DX11 only games.
As for Fermi : DX12 on it is the most limited and broken fetature that was ever officially realeased on NV cards up to this point.
In other words : You get way less problems from showing "not supported" than "supported with limitations" at this point. Answering ALL topics about why this DX12 YYZ game doesn't work on a card that GPU-z specifies as DX12 compatible (at the same level as Kepler), is just too big of a pain.

It's just that I have seen some Tesla graphics cards (GTX 280) run on old DX11 games

Old(-ish) DX11 games have DX10 render path that will work on Tesla (example : GTA V).
There are also games that can "patch out" DX10 hardware later on, regardless of it being powerfull enough to run the game just fine, here's an example :

Well, problem with RT emulation is that almost nothing with RT option supports it at this point.
You get "your GPU doesn't support RT" error, or RT enable option simply isn't present in the game menu. So, does DNF (did not finished), counts as supported (like 0FPS) because one or two games and single benchmark can enable RT in emulation mode on them ?

I don't remember getting such an error message when I still had a 1660 Ti in my main PC. Is it a common thing?

If you really want to cancel the (Geforce 10/16) RT display, in fact, I have no objection, but I think it is necessary to write hardware support ray tracing.

I can't speak for others, but I'm an ex-1660 Ti owner who never had any technical issue running RT while I had the card (extremely low performance is an issue, just not a technical one).

I think Nvidia only enabled it on these cards to give gamers a taste of RT so they can go buy a proper RTX card.

That still doesn't mean they don't support it. Just like the GeForce FX 5200 supported DirectX 9 with abysmal performance.

I voted for not supported because it's software based and pretty much useless. Only cards that should show supported is ones with the RT cores and whatever AMD is doing. Those also called RT cores?

Unless ALL RT enabled games can work with emulation mode, I don't see the reason to "enable" RT on GTX series cards.
Fermi DX12 was a headache, better avoid that.
Also, since GTX 1600 series is "supported", Pascal cards need to be adjusted as well.

Just because something is below your budget, or slightly older than your gear, it doesn't mean it should be shrugged off. Entertaining such requests is exactly what makes TPU awesome.

Slightly off topic, but the 1660 series are still capable cards at 1080p with modest expectations.

Technically, it is supported. You can enable it in games, as I have with my old GTX1080 to appreciate RT as a slideshow

Could you make the distinction between hardware accelerated or not? I think the devil is in the details, and being highly specific is key.

Yes I agree. I think technically it supports RT, so GPU Z should report that it supports RT, but it needs to be reported as software support.

It's a tough question. As I own a 1660 Super I went and checked some games. In Ghostrunner I can enable raytracing and do get a beautiful looking powerpoint presentation, but on other games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider raytracing (Nvidia RTX) is completely grayed out and not available. Consequently I would lean towards 'not supported' since it is defenitely not guaranteed to be available when hardware supported raytracing would be.

If the game that supports ray chasing enables it and it turns into a photo slide-show, I believe it's better to say "unsupported", since it's unusable. It can be considered as an interesting quirk that can be enabled out of curiosity.
