so trt740 I ran the occt stress test and realized something, its not stressing my air cooled card its stressing the watercooled card even though that card is in slot 2. but i ran furmark and the maximum temp I saw on fullscreen furmark for my 216 was 72c maybe you have a higher ambient?? also it looks like your design is different then mine, can you piost a pic of it??

I think Fits had a couple 260's like that a few months ago...he had similar pics and was wondering wtf and if they were bios detuned 275's...I think he posted that in this thread. I don't recall what he found out, but it appears you're on the right track.

Hello guys. I'm new at the forum and I'm having a little problem with overclocking my Gigabyte GTX 260 ( this model ).
It only goes on 725/1520/1071. Everything beyond that results in crashing in games or benchmarks. I'm wondering is there any bios or some modification which will allow me to clock higher. Temps are pretty ok, the highest one was about 75°C, idle is about 45-50.

if its 65nm the answer is yes download EVGA GVT or flash the bios with nvflash and nibitor so you can raise the volts but fo a 65nm card thats high .what i have noticed anything over 60c- maybe 65c makes overclocks abit unstable. if its 55nm you cant really do anything because they dont have voltage control

It is a 55 nm version, and I saw clocks on the internet which were pretty high, 700 Core and 1200 memory with that same card, but I'm not able to achieve that with my card.

Ok, then there is nothing to do about overclock, but I'm wondering what is the most important parameter for overclocking. I play games on full HD and will I get better performance by overclocking Core or Shader or Memory

shaders, core and memory last because the 200gtx series have plenty of bandwith

after my bios mod I am hitting 710/1500/1200 not bad. I need to find the measuring points for vcore etc though

If you run games at 1920 x 1080 or higher with high levels of AA, overclocking the memory can really help. That's what I found anyway.

Thank you guys for answers though I have one more question. How is that clocked GTX 260 ( 725/1520/1071 ) compared to HD 5850 in terms of gaming performance, not benchmarks. Is it weaker a lot or they can be compared?

The 260 GTX IS weaker about 10 percent weaker, if your card is at it's max oc and the 5850 at a stock clock. It gets bigger if the 5850 is overclocked. Still your 260 gtx should max most things and others come very close to maxing.

Corrected

Wait, which card is weaker?? I was comparing stock HD 5850 vs GTX 260 at my clocks because in my country the price difference between them is like 80$.

That was a typo, which is corrected now. Your 260 gtx is slower at it's current clocks by about 10 percent or so. The 5850 is a better buy for 80.00 more because if you oc it the gap will jumps to about 25 percent. Here in the USA you can get a used 260 gtx for about 140.00 and a 5850 for about 260.00 used. So here the price difference is bigger. I recently bought a new oem 260 gtx for 117.00 shipped.

Sry, i used wrong currency...It is 80€ not 80$...my fail...I was wondering how long would GTX 260 last for high details on full HD ( 30+ frames ) in most of the games considering that consoles are gonna be out until 2013., and they are stopping graphic developing..Is GTX 260 strong enough to last until 2013 on DX10?

I'm not sure any cards going to get you that far 2.5 years is along time in the tech world and since there are already card twice as fast out I'm not sure. Maybe 1.5 years.

Also FYI fellas the new EVGA Super Clocked 275 Gtx I bought to replace my 260 gtx I have been testing and it is a beast. It does 755/1566/2600 Furmark/ occt stable , on air, so far, and I'm not done tweaking yet. I just got a super deal on a EVGA 285 gtx but with this crazy good 275 gtx it might not be worth keeping the 285 gtx. I'm gonna test them both and which ever wins is going to be kept. I think this 275 gtx at those speeds will match any 285 gtx out. The real difference in the two is 4 ropes. A old monkey one time told me that the 275 gtx was a better buy than the 285 gtx because it is more balanced without those 4 rops and that the slighty bigger ram amount on the 285 gtx and slighty bigger bus mean about nothing. I am starting to think the old monkey maybe right. This 275 gtx is fast as hell.

I saw a thread on ocn about it, the guy had said the holes were a bit off, but I think he had the volterra design pcb, I think it will work with the pcb you and I have on our 216 cards, oh btw my 216 uses the same pcb as yours, I have been trying to find some mosfets and regulators so I can heat solder them on and have the extra 4 phases that are missing from the 216 cards
