Gtx 275 Physx, need tips on poor physx performance

I didn't install chipsset drivers on this vista 32 install.. don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Very likely, try installing them and see what happens. I doubt it is your CPU, as mine set to be a dual-core at a lower clock speed didn't have the issues.

or a coma :)

You can wake up from a coma.

fresh install physx drivers. fresh install bm:aa
overclocked to 3.2ghz 8x400
190.62 drivers

NO AA!

What happens when you disable physx ? no slowdowns ?

Did you tried changing graphics options ? setting everything to low and then going up one by one.

3dmark Vantage is on par with a GTX275 ?

I don´t think its your CPU, I´ve tried forcing physx to run on the CPU by editing the cfg, and my FPS in that scene is better then yours, the strange thing, is that it run faster then newtekie1.

EDIT: newtekie1, what settings are you using ? I´ve read somewhere else some guy stating that he was running with a 8800GTX at 1680x1050, with 4xAA and "no problems" and you are having some slowdowns with a GTX285.

bsod's / crashdumps on this x64 vista.. havnt seen a bsod in years..

bm demo wont install, says missing a dll...

I'm going get out of the house lol.. screw this

Wow..definately odd. No issues over here man. Are you trying to install the demo thru steam or your old download? Have you fully updated Vista and installed all your drivers? Most up to date drivers?

BSOD's and crashdumps could be from an unstable OC, one thing about x64, it'll fully use your CPU where x86 won't and can't because of that limitation...which can cause stability issues with oc's that seemed stable on x86. Give me a holler when you decide to tackle it again I'll see if I can give ya a hand...my knowlege on NV chipsets and Vx64 is fairly limited to what I can find in google, but I have a feeling between drivers and maybe an OC or setting not completely stable your issue is being sourced there.

Did you update to SP1 and SP2? Or was it an SP1 or SP2 install already? The more info you can give the better chance we'll be able to help ya out. Frankly I have had minimal issues with Vx64 in comparison to Vx86, maybe it's dumb luck, but I'll be more than happy to donate what knowlege I can to give ya a hand.

I was running at stock with default bios settings and 1 stick of ram instead of 2 which the mobo seller recomended... bsod's

Back on 32 bit now.. gonna try fresh drivers and run the demo!

stay tuned...

Ok, ran the demo on fresh install.. Ran smooth until the zaz scene.

I am thinking it must be a cpu bottleneck...

I just ordered a Q9550 from newegg.. oem for $219..

I didn't buy this cpu because of the problems in this thread. I mainly bought it because A. $219 seems like a great deal. B. Better hardware never hurt anyone C. Its a Quad, why not?

If I get simliar results I won't be dissapointed.. I do like to run several aps in the background of vista such as AIM, Xfire, utorrent, media player and Iexplorer... so maybe the quad will help out with allowing me to multitask better without hitching..

We shall see. I shall post an update of whether or not a quad helped with my frames, gtx 275 and overall performance compared to an e6600..

Thanks for the help eveyrone provided like taking the time to run the demo and post screens.

I just installed windows 7 32 and set it up exactly like windows vista 32, ran the demo and got 22 fps (8-12fps in vista) minimum on zaz scene... Very wierd.

Hey! It's a start! With that quad, I would expect another 10fps increase. That should put you at that 30fps playable range. :toast:

I normallay get 35-60 fps during the gameplay. My problem was during physx heavy areas such as the tile floor being broken to pieces or the Unreal T 3.0 physx maps with the crumbling brick walls. I couldn't get better than 12-15 fps on those UT3 physx maps, but normal non ageia maps I could lock vsync and never look back.

yay these tiles don't bog my pc down to 8fps anymore!

Keep in mind, the frame rates posted in these screens are my lowest fps rate.. usual gameplay is around 45 average.. before the windows 7 run I would get 8-12 fps on these same areas of the game

If you look at the other screen shots you'll notice I had under 12 fps standing in that same exact spot using Vista

Yay, damage to walls doesnt make me feel like my video card is a fx5200 32mb!!

Now can anyone explain why even using a fresh install of vista caused the same effect? But using Windows 7 32bit made a huge difference?

Just realized something... The game isn't even released yet! I would just wait for the official release, there are bound to be bugs. That is all.

yeah so true.. but someone with a slightly slower pc was getting 250-400% better performance than I was, on the same unpatched demo.

there is no doubt in my mind that this demo has nothing to do with how the actual game is going to run, thats obvious.. but using this demo as a benchmark sure has shown me some faults with my setup.
