The biggest problem is if they change disable functionalities and features of the original firmware, an HDD without adequate head parking or without energy savings
Well, you already have your hundred answers to that question above and in other threads. I hope your curiosity is satisfied soon

You keep worrying about this but honestly why would they do that? The drive lying about being "fresh" is bad enough.

You are awfully worried about this hard drive you bought on ali express. No, they don't "disable features", they change the power-on-hours (god knows how many at a time) and move on to the next batch. Just be glad the dang thing works and use it till it breaks. I wouldn't trust it.

Do they change or disable some system settings (such as power management) within the firmware and does this affect the parking system?

Sourced from laptops thrown in Chinese landfills.

People have been nice and told you pretty much everything there is to be said. These drives are not reliable, may have been tampered with. Do not trust anything important to them.

I know they change SMART to show few hours of use and good health. Changing power functions and power management within the firmware is also easy to change and is it within the SMART changes package?
changing power settings also changes the parking system?

Being as cynical as I am, I have bought ex-data center disks that work fine. Some have sector sparing of say 3-5 which is par for the course with hard disks, I bought them on fleabay from a vendor that has operated there a long time. Bought 2x 12TB that both work fine, one 14TB that still works but might get some 16TB disks next.

I may get some of those cheap 20 disk cases to store disks in as my 5-disk box cannot use all them at once unless I get another unit,

Retired datacenter HDDs are just high hour units, these are probably okay because they have been operated in controlled conditions. Not super reliable, but you are also paying a fraction of an equivalent new drive.

I do not think it goes that far, no. But you can set APM manually by using HDD sentinel or something like this. Honestly, if your drives are working, just thank the Lord and keep using them. Just do not place any important data you cannot afford to lose in them.

APM is the power management functionality within the firmware that controls the parking of the heads in safe removal in Windows or power cut? If AliExpress sellers did not modify or modify APM this functionality, would the entire parking system be intact ou with problems? for my models above WDC WD10JPVX-08JC3T5, HGST APPLE HDD HTS541010A99E662

There are thousands of sellers on Aliexpress, we can't tell you what YOUR seller did to the drives that you bought. All we can say is that yes, it is *possible* that changes were made.

And nobody here knows either. The only way to know would be to contact the seller and hope that they tell you the truth. But I doubt that they will.
