Head-Direct's newest entry level model is put to the test. Dubbed RE-242 these in-ears are the first earphones from Head-Direct directly aimed at the entry level market. Priced at $25 they are budget friendly and feature a smart new durable design.

Nice - especially the price....

Need new ones for my HTC Desire ... think they will be the next

Good review :)

Good review. I have to ask: How do they stack up against the RE-2s?

The RE-2s are very lean on the bass and slightly brighter with some tips. I think the RE-242s are better all around than the RE-2s, plus the new design is far superior to that of the RE-2s.

How well do these stay in your ears ?

Ive bought a few sets of in ears lately and the problem I keep having is they seem to work there way out of your ears over time very easily when doing any sort of activity.

Try looping the cable over the ear that helps a bit. The type of issues you are having usually comes from using tips that are slightly too large or too long.

RE-242 vs SoundMagic PL50, which would you choose?

Any idea as to when these will be available? They still aren't listed for sale anywhere I have checked.

Try contacting Odyssey Audio in Denmark and ask them when they will have them in stock.

I have not seen anything about the launch of the RE-242s but I suspect it is very close.

Cheers,
Frederik

I certainly wish these would be released as I just broke my last pair of RE2s, and they are no longer available:(

I may settle for some PL30s until then, but I'm not optimistic about how much I will like them.

The RE-242s will not go on sale, the model has been scrapped by Head-Direct. So the only option is RE0s or RE-2xx series earphones from them.

The PL30s are alright but not quite as interesting as the RE-2s in my opinion.

Such a travesty.

Thanks for the info, I will consider other alternatives. The RE0s have been on my list, but are a little pricey to wear at work (carpentry) everyday. I may bite the bullet, though, as accuracy is most important to me in a set of in ears. They also double as my hearing protection:)
