just don't mix up the pin layout or you'll have bad day (hardware wise)
Very Very Bad, yes. (Thankfully, not from experience.) Basically, PCIe and CPU/EPS are 'flipped polarity' of each other.

I did have to quadruple-check my re-pin job, when I re-manufactured some old PSU modular cables into more PCIe power.

One of my most-appreciated purchases, BTW; my 'pin tool':

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.

I could have done with that kit a couple of years ago when I had to "make" 48x 6+2pin PCIe cables by stealing the wiring from a big bag of leftover Corsair Type4 EPS/4+4 pin connectors and re-pinning them into some new 6+2 pin Mini-fit Jr. connectors.

I used bent staples to get the damn pins out of the old connectors, but 48x 8pins is a lot of faffing with fiddly staples!

The paranoia of quadruple-checking everything is real when the price of a single mistake is anything from a blown fuse in the PSU to a cloud of smoke with sparks and a lot of dead hardware. I really miss the old ketchup and mustard wiring. Monochrome cables look nice but they're horrible when it comes to identifying GND vs 12V :|
