Building a 5600X setup for a relative and try tuning the ram now. Kingston fury beast 32gb (2x16). A bit puzzled though, it identifies as Hynix A single rank in Thaiphoon. Does that even exist? Trying to tweak timings/speed now and 3800 16-21-21 work, 16-22-22 spews errors. I thought Hynix A maxed out at 3600 and 8gb modules or 16gb dual rank. Could it be CJR/DJR or something else wrongly identified by Thaiphoon?

Did you visually check to see if it's actually single rank or dual rank? No need to go to Thaiphoon to find out that part.

CJR and DJR are 8Gb chips so obviously not possible. So far there's a 4Gb and 8Gb AFR that are known. Most 16Gb Hynix would be MJR.

But MJR doesn't like sub-CL17 at 3733-3800 (I think?) so maybe it's improved? Unlikely though. Hard to tell if it's definitively MJR, all Hynix suck on tRCD and tRP. Though tRFC might say something.

AFR does exist in 4Gb and 8Gb flavours so it might be possible that there's a new 16Gb kid on the block. I don't know if you'll get an answer unless you peel the heatspreaders off though (seems like you won't be for this PC), not much interest these days in bottom-tier 16Gb DDR4 chips.

It could be dual-rank DIMMs as well so Hynix CJR/DJR 1GB ICs maybe.

Edit: NVM you said single-rank. My guess is Hynix MJR. I think around 4000 MT/s is the upper limit for those ICs. Try CL18 if your getting errors and / or enable Gear Down Mode.

So I'm still confused, RFC seems Micron B since Hynix usually can do sub 500 at 3800, RP and FAW seems Hynix since Micron does 16 with ease. MJR with a bit poor binning might be the answer, good quess guys :) Improved dram calc test from 160sec to 124sec going from XMP 3600 to the above so not bad. I must test a bit further with RC, WTR and WR/RTP, but looks like I'm close to the limit.

Edit: Unsure if it's MJR which should require RFC of 650+ at 3800. Still confused!

Feels like DJR judging from tRFC and 4333CL19. Neither CJR nor DJR have room to tighten, because they're Hynix.

Very likely a good binned DJR. How are the rest of the timings? Only Nanya B and Samsung B can run lower RFC at that speed. Nanya B is rare so it is unlikely that you have that. Samsung B can run 4000 at below 150ns +/- at 1.35v.

I get get cas to 16 and rcdrd to 20 at 4000mhz if I put more power through but latency doesn't make as much difference with apus compared to standard zen 3 cpu. I can't get much more with the rest of the timings but happy to listen to any advice, I am using more trial and error also luck with ram overclock not for lack of effort with trying to learn but it's a lot to take in

What's going on with your SDs and DDs? Why's it all set to 1? I don't think I've ever seen that before, I don't even know if that's actually possible. Something tells me that 1 is not what has actually been applied.

Also, zentimings is on 1.2.9 now.

If some of the high freq Intel results with DJR are any indication, it can most likely go much higher as DJR but you will have to loosen especially tRCD/tRP considerably.

I don't know if you use iGPU or another GPU but I doubt you need 1.2V for 4000 - probably have a lot of juice left in it.

recently i've had some Hynix AFR/MFR chips as told by Thaiphoon. It was GSkill 4400.19 2*16 GB kit. You can't literally tweak timings to "non-standard" for them. Even Spectek is better for me than Hynix for RAM OC lmfao.

I think this ram can go higher and until now 4333 has been my limit as I've hit my fclk limit keeping it synced 2:1 without trying to push too seriously but I will have a go before I take the extra fan away from my ram to see if I can break 5000

userbenchmark lmao, it's not only not the best test it's not even on the radar for mem benching lol

You can use the membench embedded in DRAM Calc interchangeably with AIDA, for a second opinion. It's a decent test.

Geekbench3 specifically for the memory score to get a rough idea of bandwidth.

Linpack will measure in GFlops also useful

You're probably nearing the limit at 4400 for iGPU. Biggest stress test is to just play games with the iGPU, VSOC droop is very challenging for most if not all boards

Running 2xsingle rank might make sd and dd not relevant. I've read possibly like you said the values are being overridden as not realistic or I'm not sure if this is correct or not just a copy and paste someone else's words:

Trdrdsd- different rank, involves 2 rows in a different rank of a dim

Only relevant to dual rank is how I read that?

Should still be relevant with 2 x single rank dimms?

I'm finally getting a bit of understanding for what these numbers mean

Looks good! Only significant improvement I can see is trying lower RC. RAS+RP=RC so you can try 59 first. DJR can usually do sub 55 at 4000 so you can try for instance RAS 35, RC 54.

I didn't think I could get anything like this result from first couple of days playing around with this kit. RAS then RC to bring down a bit
