Hi everyone,

One of my computer HDDs which is 4 TB WD Black was encrypted using windows 11 Bitlocker,
And now something wrong and strange happened,
All of sudden, all Partitions on this disk have gone,
Disk shows only in Windows Disk Management as unallocated space and isn't accessible anyhow most probably due to encryption.

I tried so much to recover Partitions using third party software from Acronis, EaseUs, Paragon, Recuva and others but to no avail.

Only EaseUs tried remotly to recover Partitions but "failed" and they said i have to pay around 60 USD for one time recovery or purchase thier software "EaseUs Partition Recovery" with life time license and upgrades at the same cost,

Anyone here knows how and if it's possible to recover such lost encrypted Partitions?
Or should i go with EaseUs, are they trustworthy?

Thank you all.

If it was encrypted and you have touched it with multiple softwares, and the data is important you should bring it to a professional if you haven’t already destroyed the data.

yes easeus is trustworthy

yes easeus is trustworthy
Touched it with recovery tools, just read and scan,
Also these tools couldn't find these partitions or even list thier names probably because encryption, let alone get inside them and do any damage.

And what about professional, a Tech lab?
I don't know any of these here and if present, they will be fraud or scam or at best a failure also if a real professional lab, that will cost me a fortune,
Definitely much more than what EaseUs is asking.

Yeah. Because they are labs. It seems you don’t appear to know that there are going to be things that software alone isn’t going to be able to do. If you don’t have a good idea of where to start you shouldn’t be working with the disk.

I see you’re not looking for advice from people who have done this. You already know best.

Good luck!

Bitlocker gives you a link, open that link and enter the loooong code which is linked to your Microsoft account. Then you're unlocked.

I locked someone's lappy before, they went from frowning at me to buy me a burger.

First,
I didn't work with the disk except for encryption,
Anything else happend on its own, believe it or not.

Second,
I didn't mean to provoke you and indeed i'm asking for help, i'm just discussing the matter and the ideas especially i'm the one who set against the screen watching what's happening.

In a similar scenario?
Not recently, cause I realized/learned a long time ago that the best way to maintain partitions is to only have 1 on each disk, and keep my base OS & other data separated on their own drives :D

But yea, years ago, EaseUs saved my arse, AND my data, on more than one occasion....

I already have OS alone on 1 TB NVMe,
I intended to do what you did but i'm still purchasing SATA SSDs for a single partition on each one.

Yes, and it may be the best thing to do,
Problem is it's not applicable option for me.
So i have to try and try and try again with software.

Not applicable because i don't know any labs that provide such service and even if i got to a trustworthy one, it won't be affordable also the only place that may have such labs "if any" should be 300 kms away from me.

You should have made a backup of that hard disk before you started with that software. Then you could experiment with the copy to get data back. Now you have made the problem worse by fiddling with all kinds of software, but now it's too late of course.

I thought that by now in 2023, everyone know you always make a backup of your harddisk or SSD, so you are safe in case of emergency. My bad...
Specially when there is something wrong, make a backup BEFORE trying to repair it. It will now also cost you more money to get data back if possible...

How could you do a backup of 4 TB disk when you don't have another 4 TB or bigger one?

Also it was already encrypted and showing only "Unallocated space".

There is software that take an sector by sector backup and compressing it, so you have maybe halve space needed. Because you did play with software already, you may very well have overwritten data that maybe could be repaired.

Even more a 4TB+ external HDD is now available for small prices... No reason to not make an backup.

I just contacted WD distributor here and they said we don't offer such service unless disk is defective,
Also some well-known retailers told me there is only one lab but it won't recover movies or games for legal considerations.

External HDD and a software, so i didn't pay attention to it.
Also i'm in the process of installing 6*4 TB SSDs,
So i guess I will have to get NAS for that.

Still, make a backup of that disk and put away safe, in case for a future solution. The more you experiment with it, the less lucky your chances are.

Not really, you also could use RAID on your system. Cheaper then a NAS, and a NAS must be very good secured for hackers encrypting your data via the internet and then ask ransom money to decrypt it.
And even from a NAS you should have a backup.... RAID has an option that makes an backup all the time of your data, if one HDD fails you just put a new HDD and it will repair everything automatic. RAID also can connect your 6*4TB disks together, so you see one SSD from 24TB.

Guess you're SOL, go re-download the movies and take this as a lesson to not panic and screw drives up further.

Every time I read these stories I get somewhat stressed... I too have important data not backed up, e.g. backed up 6 months ago and therefore backup not current. I need to go do my backups again.

Every time I read these stories I get somewhat stressed... I too have important data not backed up, e.g. backed up 6 months ago and therefore backup not current. I need to go do my backups again.
Should be a weekly occurence if not every other week, like defrag of HDDs

Software Windows Server 2003 R2 as a Workstation now migrated to W10 with regrets.
Agreed. In my case, it is transferring the updated files on my laptop back to the NAS. NAS runs RAID. Somehow, 15 years ago, the whole backup and archiving process was much easier. I used to just have an external HDD to backup the laptop. Now I run a NAS, and use both desktops and laptops, and file sync is an issue, and backup is an issue. ONE-to-ONE is much easier to manage than MANY-to-ONE
