Help with my 940BE Overclock

Guys,

Take a look at my included screen shot and advise on improvments.

I was increasing the FSB to get the HT Link higher, but then I noticed a HT option on my new M3A79-T DELUXE that allows me to raise it.

So, I did:laugh:

Cant get it to boot at 2.5G HT-Link though. WHY ???:banghead:

Do I need to have it at 2.5G ????

Pease advise.

My Zalman 9700 is on full and it ran for 15 min in prime95 and 1hr in AOD.

What do you guys trust? AOD or Prime95????

I reasd that Prime95 is just toooo much on the CPU and that there's nothing out there that will torture your CPU like Prime95, so dont been too bothered if Prime causes a BSOD after 15mins.

What do you guys think???

Raising the HT link yields minimal performance gains. Leave it at 2000 amd raise the NB multiplier instead.

Thanks for the reply, but on my M3A70-T mobo there's a NB-CPU Multi which goes upto 2.6G is this what needs to be set to 2000Mhz ???

and what about the HT-Link on the first page of CPU-Z (under FSB vaule)??? should I let that go as high as possible ??

Correct, try raising the NB-CPU multi. The HTT should be at 2000. FSB at 200

I had the HT Link at 2300 the other day and performance dropped???

I had the FSB at 250 with a multi of 14.5 (just over 3.6G)so why should the performance drop?

And why does the NB Value change in the memory tab ?

And why is the weather alwasy shit in the UK.

And .......

You also can't have the HT higher then the NB Frequency.
 
But if I change the FSB they bith go up (NB Value on mem page of CPU-z and the HT-Link Value) ???

This is whats confusing me?

Yes, The FSB raises Memory, CPU, HT, NB Clocks lol

Like I said. ^^ You have an unlocked processor (don't need to raise the fsb) your motherboard should have options to raise the NB (don't need to raise the fsb).
 
So if i overclock my cpu to 3.6g whats a good nb setting between auto and 2.6.
And if my choice causes it too crash, should i raise the nb volts or nb vid volts???

Put the NB to 1.25v
 
And what nb overclock value?

2.6mhz failed to boot, but the highest i had it set to was 2.3.
Was because the volts were to low for not booting at 2.6????

It could be. Just go with 2.4 at 1.25v for now.

With the knowledge he has shown I dont know if he should even be trying to OC his proc yet.:ohwell:

I dont mean to sound rude or anything but I think he needs to research more before he tries to OC his processor again. He could very easily fry it or his mobo.

I agree with nick, He's got a black edition processor he shouldn't even have to mess with HT speed, fsb or anything like that a simple boost of the cpu multiplier and maybe a tweak of the V-core should be enough. Would be different with a locked multiplier where bus speed tweaking matters, but it doesn't.
 
If you raise the nb I'm pretty sure you need to raise the cpu/nb vid, not the nb volts. If you raise the HT reference clock then everything else goes up with it, so you would then raise the nb volts.

Guys, ive been overclocking for 12 months and the only reason why im playing with fsb etc is because i was seeing other people doing it. Some peole say overclocking everything on the phenoms is the way to go???

That was the case, but since AM2+ you can individually overclock the North Bridge, CPU, and RAM it's not necessary since raising the HTT link brings no real performance gains as I explained earlier.

When it comes to Phenom IIs best way is to up the multiplier as high as you can get stable then tweak the Bus speed a little bit to get the last few mhz out of it, not rely completely on the Bus speed. When you adjust the Bus speed it changes the HT Link, the memory speed, PCI speed etc. Besides if you can get another 100 mhz out of a Bus speed adjustment. you can get the same from a half step of the multiplier and a little more v-core. Just remember you have a Black Edition, why stress the other components of your system if you don't have to?

One should be labeled CPU NB VID, Which is the NB on your CPU. The other is on your motherboard.

Thanks, ive now settled on just moving the cpu multi to 18 and everything but the voltage to normal.


I guess i was just plain bored and now im back to playing iracer. Lol.
