World of Warcraft.

Hardly hidden. Neither is Deus Ex to be honest.

A game I'm definitely going to try is Pathologic. I started it but the computer went dun goofed so I had to start over. Seems extremely interesting.

Not really "hidden" either. While I'm not interested in the game, I remember that it was still fairly well-known over a decade ago.

there is a game called t34 vs tiger that is a complete gem but still needs lots of work. The game maker ran out of money so they don't support it anymore and there's only a few missions.
Its a ww2 tank sim based on the eastern front in the later years of ww2. It doesnt run on windows 10, i run it on Vista.
There is also a movie called t-34. Not a bad movie. Nothing spectacular but good overall.

which silent hunter would you recommend playing for the first time. I was always interested in this game. would you say it's the best sub game

Did you ever play Anachronox. I remember reading about this game when it came out and it sounded weird/interesting. maybe you would know about it if you played wheel of time
I'd say probably Silent Hunter III, but keep in mind it's a bit dated. Definently take a look at a few of the mega mods too. GWX is what I used to run.

Actually I'd suggest SH4 instead of SH3 because 3 has the Starforce crap in it.
SH3 IS a good game and if you can get past dealing with the Starforce crap it's a gem too but SH4 doesn't have it period. SH3 Plays best with XP but can be buggy with Win 7 and could be with Win 10 if that's what you would run it with, SH4 does well with XP and Win 7 at least.

Good thing about SH3 is there are plenty of mods out there, SH4 has a ton of them available too.

Another thing about SH4 is once installed, if you know what you are doing it can be ran without the disk, no cracks or mods required to do it - 100% legit.
Gets the game data from the HDD/SDD once it's setup properly so you don't have disk-lag meaning much faster loading times. With both versions it is important to get all the updates for the best experience from it.

Wow, I can’t believe I forgot to mention this one! It was not a financial success, yet enjoys a large loyal and quiet following. I have literally played this game 11 times!

Not that hidden either. All the way to Exile it was THE game to have (just Myst and Riven alone sold over 12m copies, and Myst held the title of "best selling game ever" for almost 10 years).
Uru is when things started to go sour for Cyan. Even an excellent End of Ages got review-bombed 'cause it wasn't in the spirit of old clickers. I have the entire collection on CDs/DVDs.

Actually I'd suggest SH4 instead of SH3 because 3 has the Starforce crap in it.

It does? Not if you buy it online, I think. My copy from gamersgate (I bought it a long time before GOG was around) doesn't.

SH3 also needs hacks to run above 1024x768 (ick) I think. Widescreen support above 1080p even with mods is unlikely. Keep that in mind.

That's what makes the Deus Ex games special, in particular the first one. I remember watching a lecture on YouTube a couple of years ago (could have been by Warren Spector himself - can't remember) and he explained the "verticality" of the level design in the game and the importance of building a truly 3D world. I've thought about that concept, and while many games are 3D, not many take take advantage of verticality and mainly exist on the horizontal plane. They might as well exist as a 2D game for all intents and purposes.

Games don't have to be huge, open worlds to feel alive and interesting. Deus Ex nailed a lot of different concepts such as level design, character development, storyline, puzzles, and music. "Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle" is how a lot of "big" games can be described, and I think Deus Ex is the opposite of that concept entirely. Concise levels with so much depth and player choice makes it shine.

BTW, I've recently played the original by way of the fan-made enhanced version of the game: Deus Ex: Revision. Good stuff and worth checking out if you've already finished the original. It's been in active development for a few years and keeps getting regular updates.

I saw the youtube video of revision and the graphics look exactly the same. But they changed other things. Open world games used to be my favorite but now they are all dumb and generic. It's not really open world anymore, its a wide game where you go on main quest and side quest and now gather resources which generally feels like a chore which I think defeats the purpose of a game only in rare instances does it really make sense to do it and makes the game more interesting. In open world or rpg games you would have to for example talk to people or sometimes make choices even evil ones to get quests, there was a little ! icon above the person or something on the map. If you never talked to the person you wouldn't know and even then after you did the quest you could backstab them or take side with their enemy or demand more money or whatever. Also you really could do anything, I remember in one deus ex game, I completed the mission, got the person's money and just shot him for the sake of it. If you did that in gta v it would be game over or you wouldn't even be able to shoot the person in the first place.

I think games have been dumbed down too in general, I played a COD game where you were on a convoy, placed the controller down and left the room and I 'won' the mission lol, that's how mindless some games are now. Older games required more intelligence to play and were for more of a catered audience than the mass public as a form of entertainment.

I think I got it for free, it came with my computer.

I bought the original MYST in the 90s on CDi, still have it in my CDi collection.

myst 1 was a hidden gem when it came out I guess you could say. I think I got it for free, it came with my computer. It was a really weird and mysterious game, but after myst 1 the games did not seem that good.
Makes me wonder what your definition of "hidden gem" means as Myst sold alotta copies some time after release which makes it well known enough to not be "hidden".

It's frequently on sale on GOG.
BTW, Cyan is working on remastered Myst and Riven for VR. Though, it's an Oculus Quest excusive, so with recent facepalm... bookface... whateveritscalled debacle, I'm not sure I'll be playing it any time soon.

Yep, it was you. I think I was in a Soviet SU-85, had a clear shot, and was like "Wait is that the guy?" and you murdered me.

You're lucky it was the SU-85, could've been in something with better armor, lol.

Almost forgot to mention one more. Arcanum. The game that set a trend for Bethesda for the next 20 years, that a buggy RPG can be good as well ))). Things like original Fallout and Desperados totally went over my head at that time, but Arcanum clicked like no other. By far the best isometric RPG of early 2000s.
I was just watching a vid on youtube, supposedly inExile (developers of Wasteland), are cheekily hinting that they work on a steampunk-themed game. Most news outlets assume it's Arcanum sequel, but I'm not 100% sure since no one knows who has the IP rights to this game. Either Activision Blizzard or Paradox Interactive, but definitely not Microsoft.

Speaking of underappreciated masterpieces... American Mc'gee's Alice games? Those had lots of media attention back in a day, but they never really got a deserving success story. Madness Returns was excellent, but it was a complete commercial flop.

Benchmark Scores Good enough for me
Yep, it was you. I think I was in a Soviet SU-85, had a clear shot, and was like "Wait is that the guy?" and you murdered me.

You're lucky it was the SU-85, could've been in something with better armor, lol.
Did you shoot me in the back of the tank, and it bounced. I remember a su-85 shot me in the engine but it bounced, I turned around and 1-shot him at point blank range, under 50m.
I'm actually playing it right now. Nothing better to do on a windy day in Vegas inside a semi-truck.
Even if you played in a IS-1, I would have shotten you in the cupola for a 1-shot kill.

That might have described the scenario. It was from behind but not sure if I got a shot off before shock or not. It was a couple of days ago.

Yea I remember, I might have a replay of it but I'm not going back through lots of game replays.
What name was on the account.
