HiFiMAN is constantly developing their planar technology, and today, we will take a look at their latest state-of-the-art headphone. It is dubbed the HE-1000 and features a nanometer thick diaphragm, leather headband, and milled aluminum. We take HiFiMAN's most audacious and pricey headphone for a ride!

Aww man, I was hoping for some sexy shots of the insides...

thanks for the review Fred. price of headphones have really shot up. it's hard to recommend anything over the Sennheiser HD600 for the money.

I went on a five year quest looking for my favorite over ear stationary, over ear mobile, and gym earbuds. And while I'll say I'm content, I'll add that I fell in love with the looks of these instantly. I tell people who've never experienced a properly amplified open set of cans about what they're missing and they look at me like I'm a fu cking alien.

I'd have these sitting around and be like "here, check this out.."

while i like the sound of the HE1000s,
i prefer the tonality and the sound signature of the Edition X.
especially the vocals

i'll stick with my he-500 for now, these are way too expensive.

I'm not contesting the sound quality, and I would expect magnetostatics to be good, but it seems head phone measurements are really tricky and influence the results big time, which makes it really hard to get "objective data". I can imagine this makes headphones very attractive for audiophile grade magic dreamscape wonderland products and, even more so, pricing.

A few millionaires will buy this and the company will be in the black. Sell 10, make a profit. What a rip off.

I'll wear them as I drive my $600 Truck

people often have this reaction when an audio company launches a new flagship product. a lot of the pie in the sky products you see at audio shows like $40,000 electrostatic speakers simply exist to sell the same companies lower priced speakers. somebody will look at the HiFiMAN HE-1000 and buy the HiFiMAN HE-400s :)

Just like the Titan :)

@Frederik S With something this good, I'll bet the company had to prise them away from your hands... ;)

i was blown away when i tried this with the chord dave.

but then again, its too expensive for me

Hey guys, I've asked a friend to get one when he's in China, I should be getting it in a month or two, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. You can be sure that when I do get it, I'd post pics and perhaps an impression or two. This will be my last headphone purchase as I've a number of mid to higher end cans, the HE-1000 represents my first and only foray into SummitFi cans....
