Hi!
After my hdd died, i sent it back and without the warranty the shopkeeper replaced it for me.
He said come back tomorrow and after i came, he said give 10$ more to have hitachi hdd, cuz i don't have anymore seagates barracudas. Should i exchange it???
Is it really the hitachi better than seagate? Is it worth the change for 10$?

I stand to be corrected but if according to law he has to replace the hdd he cannot make you pay for your replacement even if it is a better one...

Well unfortunately here are no laws of that type T_T
Anyway just for curiousity which one is better?

I've stayed away from Hitachi since the "Deathstars" of maybe 6 or 7 years ago. Drives were fine but a lot (like 6 of the 8 I bought) had the integrated controller card (IDE) die. Almost all eventually gave me the 'click, click, click' of death.

I know that's a long time, but I still won't buy one.

I don't think I've ever had a catastrophic failure with a Seagate, but I have seen negative comments - for whatever that is or is not worth.

Right now I'm sticking with Western Digital. I've heard unfavorable things about them too (especially the passport drives), but at the moment they seem to have good reliability. But it's a toss up between WD and Seagate.

Anyway, in your case, go for the Seagate.

I read the review and hitachi had much faster drivers. It has more performance than seagate and in google hitachi was 15$ more. Going with hitachi would be better this time.
