HP PC post issue

Dear forum members,

I have a weird post issue with an HP 800 G2 tower PC computer. More specifically the PC suffers from intermittent posting, that is while it powers on it does not always post an image. I have tried various remedies, including updating the BIOS to the latest version, switching RAM sticks and trying different RAM slots, removing the graphics card, etc. The issue remains and I am at loss. What is even more strange is that when it does post, the system runs without issue. At this point, the culprit might be the power supply but since it comes with proprietary connections, I cannot change it for another.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Well, you can change but you would need to ensure it too is proprietary and compatible. Since EVERYTHING inside the computer depends on good, clean, stable power, and since these are failing PSU symptoms, you may need to, at least have that PSU tested by a qualified technician if you don't want to gamble and just buy a compatible replacement supply and hope that fixes the problem.

I was hoping it would have been something else, other than the PSU
It could be something else, but as I noted above, everything inside the case depends on good, clean stable power. So it is important to ensure you are providing that before replacing anything else.

You can get an adapter, such as:

and then use a normal non-proprietary PSU.
The PSU must also physically fit in the HP tower case, which is not a given.

It could be the motherboard too, in which case, the system belongs to the bin.

After further testing, I noticed something different with my PC's boot behavior. At first, I thought it either booted or didn't about half the time when I pressed the power button, but that’s not exactly right. What actually happens is that about half the time the PC boots quickly and loads Windows without any issues. The other half, it boots with a delay of a few minutes after I press the power button. It gets stuck on the HP splash screen for a few minutes, then eventually loads Windows and runs normally. I find this really confusing and can't figure out why. Has anyone experienced something like this before?
