HTC is said to be launching a new VR headset within the next couple days and thanks to @evleaks we now have a pretty good idea as to what to expect. Although we don't know the actual hardware specifications, it's supposed to be a stand-alone headset that doesn't require a PC to work, although...

HTC does seem to be headed straight for bankruptcy at this rate. If their vision for the future is "novelty VR-ish meditation/wellness goggles" they're limiting their target demographic to the intersection of people really into meditation/wellness but also willing to heavily integrate digital technology into that, while being willing/able to spend $500 on a novelty device, which I cannot for the life of me imagine is more than a few hundred people globally when accounting for the need of people to actually hear of the product in the first place.

Apparently, there is a $100 off deal when you buy a second Oculus Quest. Therefore you can literally buy two Oculus Quest 2 HMDs for less then the price of the Vive Flow. Judging from the specs and intended use case, the “Vive Flow” seems like an old school Oculus Go for an outrageous ~$500 USD, which, is just unacceptable In todays market.

For those savvy enough to be concerned with consuming products from the Evil Empire known as FaceBook, fair point, good on you. However, the Oculus Quest 2 is almost certainly a “loss leader”. Therefore buying a product like the Oculus Quest 2 and using a utility like “Oculess” to remove FB from the equation is actually more harmful to the company and their strategy then abstaining.

I wanted something for MR/AR as well, so I already seen pimax as a good alternative. We'll see how it ends up with the Index².
I would also keep an eye on https://vr-compare.com as there are other companies gaining ground.
