It is not HyperSLI related. You cannot use SLI in window mode.
Thats why the freeze/hard lock
Also, some games after you start them, will start in window mode then go to full screen mode (really fast, barely noticeable by us), SLI doesn't like that and will crash the system.
SLI has worked in windowed mode for years. I'm fairly certain that windowed SLI has been a thing since 2007-2009.
