Is there a way to up the clock?

Currently I get 2.4 GHz while crunching on all four logical cores. Running one WU, using one core, It goes to 2.55 GHz.

Not bad for a 17w CPU but, can I O/C it at all?

Temps vary but generally stick around 70C while crunching. PerfMonitor says I am only using 9.4 watts running four cores nearly 100% at 2.4 GHz.

All this while plugged into the wall.

Any clues to O/C-ing this baby?

I would like to try SetFSB but, cannot find my pll # on the website.

Seems there have not been any updates about Ivy Bridge laptop CPU's. Even OverClockers.net has nothing but comparisons of mobile i5's and i7's...from over a year ago.

Am I the only one that is interested in O/C ing a 17w i5?

Is it strange that I want to do this?

i wouldnt crunch on a laptop.

add no its not a black edition and its a mobile chip, so no OC.

I don't care that YOU wouldn't crunch on a Laptop. Also, Intel uses K chips, not Black Ed. like AMD.

I understand your point but, this is simply an undervolted CPU. Not even using it's full 17w, according to PerfMonitor.

What, aside from your opinion, would stop me from O/C-ing it? One, SetFSB doesn't list my board. Two, all I get for responses is, 'I wouldn't Crunch on a Laptop.'

Does anybody else have any advice?

My BIOS is also pretty lame. I wish there was a way to move BCLK up a notch, or two. I would like to see this run all four logical cores a little faster, especially since there is room for it because it's not running full power. 9.4W out of 17W max.

Two days of researching this has resulted in nothing newer than 2011. This chip, Ivy, was born in 2012.

ASUS, so far has not answered me. I asked them for a BIOS with BCLK and multipliers. I know I can't use the multi's but, may be able to nudge the BCLK.
 
Can you/did you setup/adjust your power profile to get all of your settings to maximum?

There may be a few power saving features you can turn off....

F' em all !! i crunch on my i7 lappy 24/7, just needs a beefy cooling pad :p i dont know how to up the clocks on lappys tho, sorry i cant be of any more help
 
If SetFSB doesn't support your board then I think you have hit the wall.

The Core i5-3317U has a maximum multiplier of 26 when a single physical core is active and a maximum of 24 when both physical cores are active. If RealTemp and ThrottleStop are reporting the full 24.0 multiplier when crunching then you have reached the maximum that this CPU is capable of.

If the multiplier is not sticking at the full 24.0 long term then give ThrottleStop a try and see if it can adjust your Turbo Power Limits. If you are already running 24.0 then playing around with ThrottleStop isn't going to help you any.

They are all set. Just hoping to up the bclk a little. It generally runs around 99.7 and occasionally hits 100 MHz. I would love to up it even .10 MHz! But I am having trouble finding anything to adjust it.

I downloaded Throttlestop. It has a bunch of settings, most of them locked, many of them I don't know what they are. :confused:

So far, it's been no help.
 
ThrottleStop is a multi purpose tool that covers most Core 2 and Core i processors. What it can do with a CPU depends on the CPU model and what features the manufacturer has left unlocked in the bios. If you need some help, post some screen shots and ask some specific questions. If your multi is reported as 24.00 on all 4 threads when your CPU is loaded then there is no need to run ThrottleStop. There is no software that can go beyond this hardware limitation for your CPU.

The BCLK is usually locked to 99.77 MHz. Try clicking on the BCLK button 10 times in ThrottleStop and you will see that the BCLK does not change very much at all.
