Intel Apparently Discounting 10th-Gen CPUs in Bid to Claw Market from AMD

10850k 340€ now, 5600x 350€. No chance, stop being a fanboy. 5600x is an amazing cpu but its price is bad.

If AMD had an 8 Core CPU 100€ cheaper than a 6 Core Intel, you would be bragging about it like I seen you before "10% margin of error". Just stop.

MSRP of the 5600X is $300 USD. You are citing regional price in your area as if it is universal pricing, AKA cherry picking. What country do you live in?

In the US the 10850K is more expensive, in Germany the 10850K is MUCH more expensive:

Spain the 10850K is more expensive:

France the 10850K is more expensive:

Yeah, the pricing is so poor on the 5600X it is the top seller in Europe and the 3rd top selling in the US.

The 10850K ain't even in the top 20. All you got is personal attacks and cherry picking? Kinda sad.

So does Intel
Intel 10nm = TSMC 7nm. Intel has 3 such fabs, one of them is a "megafab" (can do > 50,000 wafers per month). They probably have more 10nm capacity than TSMC has 7nm capacity.

I think this is a sign that Gelsinger is in charge. He's paranoid in the old school way, and I doubt he cares about profit margins in the short term.

This is going to be good.

So is this price drop going to be passed on the the consumer in the form of lower priced prebuilts and laptops?

Does that mean EOLing them also? Aside from that, now everyone on budget can build "proper" machine with at least Z490.

LOL

TSMC has 4 "Gigafab" (Fab 12, Fab 14, Fab 15 and Fab 18) which each of them has > 100,000 wafer per month.

No discounts here. There never is. At least most prices don't get jacked up like crazy here either so...

If prices continue to fall it may be time for a trip to Micro Center.

I love competition and pricing strategies like this and which is good for the man on the street. And especialy in difficult times of WFH and no meaningful full-time jobs to be found. The Intel 11th series should be readily available by late March. Then a mere 5-6 months later Alder Lake breaking into the market with its first major revolutionary change in Intel's LGA desktop CPU socket size since 2004.

Surely Intel then wants the 2021 "Christmas Season" buyer to jumping into the Alder Lake offering. What worries me though is the pricing of all the new hardware. Z590 mobos are already listed at a cool 25%-30% increase over last year. A Z590 Asus Hero VIII is $500 at BH. I now wonder what will Asus charge for their new LGA 1700 socket mobos in a relatively few months time?

asus : new audio , wifi 6E , thunderbold 4 on many

These are normal prices TBH. 10850k should be at 349$, 10700k at 249$, 10600k at 200$, etc. Lets not forget that these are refreshed and refreshed and refreshed 6th gen parts.

Yep, TBH this is a great move from them since you want to keep the fabs moving, not stay idle and sell less and higher price. Not at least in this situation. He also needs to bring Alder Lake as soon as possible.

What? Why "should be" these prices? The part where these are the prices these CPUs have been selling is one thing but intended prices are another - 10850K RCP is $453, 10700K RCP is $374, 10600K RCP is $262.

Prices considering what they are and where they stand, that is what they mean by "should be", they give reasoning right there in their post...

Oh wow, discounted 14nm tech. What a deal!!!

Sorry, Big Blue, you need this comeuppance to atone for your many sins.

1) The price right now is $383 from the link you posted, not $394.94 as you've written. There are also listings for $372 new on the same page as well.

2) The 5600X is still cheaper at $83 over MSRP than the 10850K is on discount.

I don't really see the point in the whole 10850K argument either. If you need gaming performance you'd get a 5000 series Ryzen (which currently holds the gaming performance crown). You getting it for the cores? Why when the Intel platform doesn't support ECC memory, PCIe 4.0, and you are going to be guzzling down twice the amount of power while having inferior IPC. The Ryzen 5000 series takes a bigger lead in non-gaming application IPC, so really the use case is ever narrower. At $400+ you are getting a good gaming CPU and a good professional use CPU but with some obvious limitations and caveats. By the time you add up the total cost of the motherboard you are going to need to run that CPU to it's full potential and a high end CPU cooler you'll be spending a lot more than what's just on the price tag. Hell if you are going to sink that much extra cash on the system you might as well get a 3900X / 3950X / 5900X. You can get a 3900X new for $500 and it's going to beat the 10850K in everything but gaming (and even then only by a small amount). IMO the 10850K needs to be around $330 to be worth it. If AMD perceived Intel as a threat they wouldn't have increased the price of their CPUs by $100 across the board.

Exactly.

At this price you could add a entry z490 board and 16GB of 3200 and be just under the price of a 5800x alone (if you could even find one).
Strongly will not recommend an entry level Z490 board with an i7 and above. That is where Intel wants you to think the value is great until you read reviews online how bad these boards are. The processor will overheat the board and throttle.

Sorry, but ancient proverb is very relevant here.

Beware of (Intel) bearing gifts.

Move mostly designed to clear the inventory of inferior merchandise. For low level systems those are good/great deals, but only in that segment. I know supply is an issue right now, but no way I would get Z490. Unless it's real life and death situation for crucial work or something, just wait and buy what you want - really. Do not try to rationalize getting something worse for same amount of $ just because it's available.

It almost looks like:

Crazy World we live in. Nobody can buy anything and yet everybody somehow gets what he/she wants.... ;)

This is called "clearing the channel".... simply put, they are dumping off all the old cpu's at reduced prices so that when the next gen ones come out in a few months, folks who are building/upgrading from older systems won't be able to find or get anything else other than the new ones....

In other words, take a small margin hit now, for BIG returns later, which will be ever bigger, given the jacked up prices for the new ones :)

If you're near a microcenter, it's even better.

10600K for $189. 10700K (yes K) is $279. 10850K is $350.

10400 is $129 and 10700 is $249, which both come with a stock cooler - and you can use the stock cooler with both of those no problem.

But this trade seems so insane: 69.99us

You know you've gone full fanboy when you advocate for a scalped 6 core CPU that costs more than a 10 core competitor.

I said 7nm. More than half of TSMCs capacity is larger than 12nm.

You list fab 12 for example. Below is a breakdown, the red circled nodes are 16nm, 20nm, and 28-150nm parts of fab 12. The total capacity of that fab is 77500-123800, and most of it is not 7nm.

Intel's fab in Oregon is more sophisticated:

Since I'm old and clueless, is it just the gamers that have to have the latest and greatest? Or, is it also some normal everyday PC users with lots of money that have a need for speed? Because my old 4th Gen i5 with 16 gig ram, just smokes across the web, of course my 1GHz internet helps. I can remember when there were lines out overnight at all the iPhone stores, because some had to have the latest and greatest, has the iPhone syndrome infected the PC world, or did it just spread by itself? :D
