I will say the same as gamer nexus said about 11 gen aka rocket lake.

14 gen is a waste of sand. Hot, power hungry and litterly a perfectic performance lift over 13 gen.

14900K is a 13900K with 200 MHz core boost and thats it.

Yawn, wake me up when Zen 5 or gen 15 comes out. Cause this is just a waste of time.

Because it sells. Consumers see "new gen' and open their wallets. It was the same reason AMD rebrandeon'd itself multiple times with GCN. It's dumb, but its human nature.

It's gotten totally out of hand. What is the point of "efficiency" cores exactly? I thought theyd be efficient. Instead, the more E cores we get the worse the power usage is.

Quick, someone get @fevgatos in here so he can tell us how much more efficient intel is!
Only a boneheaded person would remove power limits and run blender 24/7 if he cared about efficiency. That's just dumb.

So there are 3 separate reviews for the 3 new CPUs, while the other two are missing in each review? No comparison of the 3 CPUs anywhere?

z690 itself shouldn't make a huge difference, unless its a DDR4 board.
i've got ddr5, so i may grab the upgrade when prices come down later in it's life.

I'm not sure when you began including emulation in your CPU reviews but I greatly appreciate it.

power consumption in load is crazy, specially with open power limits. I heard, some baords have at stock this powerlimit opened (so for newbies really hot in cold winter :) )

i7-14700K seems more balanced overall, but still the biggest problem is high power consumption
The 14700k does seem like the best buy in this line up.

And the 14600k has the best power consumption in that stack.

It chugs power WITH power limits. Well over twice what AMD uses out of the box.

Typical Intel small gains not much improvement. They really need to release some of their Xeon CPU's for desktop to compete with AMD. Intel need to stop with the little stuff and go big something like a 16 core monster no IGPU 16 P core only no E cores 16c32t something. Massive L1 L2 and L3 caches. When AMD was doing well with the Athlon 64 days then the big huge step with core 2 duos came out it was almost a 10 fold improvement in performance. But now intel is stuck in the same way they was in the past. No huge steps.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
I was expecting more saltiness from @Wizzard for making him do an entire review cycle for what is basically just the 13900KS he's already reviewed ;)

They did announce some xeons, but capped out at 8 cores.

16 P cores at desktop speeds would be a power monster. With only P cores i9s still push 200w, with 16 cores you'd be looking at 400+ under normal load.

that's just.....too much.

I think he's moved from saltiness to outright apathy over the blue giant.

Steve from GN will never give up that easily - I haven't had time yet but I'm sure he's put up the most cynical, accusatory, sarcastic review he's done in a while ;)

Huh? It chugs as much power you set your power limit to. What are you even talking about?

As a consumer why would you spend $200 more on a equal or slightly slower CPU to consume 3x more power.

Edit: For Gaming

At Intel they have outdone themselves, 14900K power consumption is higher than 12900K or 13900K.
At the end of the day, an AMD CPU can do as much for consistently half the power used across the board and is thusly the better choice. Intel 253 Watt bonanza continues.

As mentioned in another thread, it's my job to do these reviews. Why would I be salty? Should a reviewer even be salty and not just stick to the facts?

Each of intel's new chips got a Editor's Choice award today - do they all deserve it. F no!
I thought long about this, also polled other staffers, also about "but expensive", but look at the competitive landscape. These are really good CPUs, just like last-gen was really good CPUs

The 14900KS will for sure reach 118°C, I am amazed they are even allowed to market such hazardous products.
