Intel recently informed its partners that as part of its nonstop update process, some of the giants processors that are not competitive anymore are going to be slowly phased out. Both the 3.0GHz Intel QX9650 and the 3.2GHz QX9770 desktop processors will dissapear from market shelves forever. Both processors are no longer listed in Intel's official processor price list. Final orders will be taken till June 5th of this year and the final tray processors are expected to ship February 2, 2010, while boxed versions will ship until September of next year.

i dont believe that much people are gonna miss them

Yeah, if you had that kinda cash you'd be going i7 anyway.

When people are overclocking past 3.2ghz on lower priced chips it makes sence to phase them out if theres little demand theres no room for profit.

Their passing marks the end of a wildly successful generation (Core 2). Kind of sad, actually, but time (and technology) marches on.

 my CPU is obsolete now... Ima gonna cry

Aww, this is to bad.:D Who would pay $900+ for a cpu when you can spend that much on a Extreme Core i7.??

Great to see that Intel is killing off old hardware so it doesn't stick around forever and they don't waste there money.

I guess this procs never were good sellers, and to think you can still find the good ol' Q6600 for sale so many years after it was released :rockout:

you can but their becoming unbelievably hard to find unless 2nd hand off similar places such as fleabay

Sad for Fitseries. Lol but he's using i7 anyway.

These chips are just torchbearers to get attention. They only sell to people with money who can't figure out better ways to spend it (yikes lol.) i7 is the crown glory of Intel now and they want the attention there.

Core 2 isn't on the way out unless you actually thought highly of these rip off chips.

Well of course no one will purchase them now due to i7 now... but before they were released, these CPU's were beasts... They were the best, but now they are obsolete ofcourse cause of the i7 and future chips...

Stop pretending that the i7 is expensive >.< $230+$199+$50 = cpu mobo and memory = $479

I more meant you'd be going for a 940 or a 965 rather than the 920, I'm pretty sure these were roughly equivalent to the 940 and 965 correct?

The i7 is the best CPU I have ever toyed with ...ever overclocked ....Just the way the chip interacts with the OS power options in vista still has me in aww....With a little bit of knowledge these chips friggin fly....they(i7):respect: and the X58(lol first generation) :respect:will take cheap azz ram and make it seems as though you dumped $$$100's on them.....Yup they are kind of hot but they are very stable while running hot .....even there heat sync seems to be superior....I could go on more but well you see what I mean .

If you are considering a $1000 QX9650 or a $1200 QX9770, you aren't going to be looking at i7 920's and 940's. You are going to be looking at the 965XE.

That put's the i7 more expensive as a whole, when you consider ram and board costs.

like someone getting those highend chips will get the "cheap" i7's anyway they would so go for a 965 alot of people getting those chips are buying a name they are the same people who have purchases extreme chips since P4 EE's were released
