Intel launched its "Hades Canyon" NUC way back in January 2018, but in the run up to its availability slated for Spring (very soon); the company shared a picture of its motherboard. The non-rectangular board is curved to the shape of the chassis, and is designed to utilize every square cm of precious PCB real-estate. The board has components soldered on both sides. The top side has the various slots (memory and M.2), ports, and headers; while the bottom side has the main Core i7-8709G MCM, the chipset, and some VRM components powering the two. Intel made sure some of the rear I/O ports utilize cutouts in the PCB, so they don't add a precious few millimeters. The NUC's main cooling system, inspired by gaming notebooks, takes up most of the bottom side of the chassis, making contact with the MCM, the PCH, and VRM.

That looks like a hell of a power delivery system.
I would like to see what kind of experiments can be done with this board

That's my dream PC right there. 5 times smaller than my current ITX rig, and probably more powerful (not counting the GPU, but still....)
And it's more affordable than its predecessor ($570 for a base model w/o OS).

It's VR-capable, so I'm pretty sure you can make a portable VR/AR backpack w/ a couple of 12V UPS batteries and a 120W inverter

Looks so nasty, and damn, it's faster than the PC I currently use.

I gotta say it: Why is it pictured next to an Apple keyboard?

All that vrm is for AMD's gpu.

All that vrm is for AMD's gpu.

2/3rd for a gpu. 1/3rd for cpu and various others are for memory, hbm, pll's etc.
Nvidia would require just as much for the same job.

Vega isn't that bad.
Vega64\56 isn't good hardware, do not let those classify vega.

It's like saying gtx1050ti is weak and not very efficient so the 1060 has to be.
1060 is very efficient and quite fast.

on another note; this package is SEXY!
