Im having a little trouble with my msi x470 gaming pro max and my new ryzen 5 3600

It's not 100% stable at 4.2 ghz so i have to run it at 4.1 ghz but i want a little more power or atlest to run it at 4.2ghz on all cores, stock is max 4.1 ghz on all cores.

I got the ryzen 3600 bulk but had to use the platic cover for the old ryzen i sold so returning it can be a challenge

Played project cars 3 and for some reason i got a reset of the game so i had to start all over again, it's somehow related to oc of the cpu, so i lowered it to 4.1 although i want 4.2 or 4.3ghz on all cores.

I want it stable so im thinking of a intel i5 10400f and an msi mb (i know msi and they have alot of fan headers) instead of trying to buy a diffrent ryzen cpu so i can get a better cpu (silicone lottery) and to the the cover so i can return my currrent ryzen cpu

Question, can i run the cpu at 4.3ghz on all core? What is the max speed i can set it to on all cores ?

Z490 or Z590, what is the difference ?

Why not get your hands on a 5600x these chips should clock to 4.6ghz-4.7ghz easily.
Instead of buying a new platform all together .
Bios Update is available for your mainboard to support the new Cpu´s .

I dont think you can overclock a non K intel part easily.

Why the heck would you want to run a 4.3ghz all core overclock when you game????

All core overclocks are stupid and the only benefit is if you're doing something mult-threaded like for sustained periods. You want the cpu to run with AMD's boost algorithms which will improve low threaded performance which is most important for gaming. Using an all core overclock, you throw away all the single thread performance for all core perf which I'm not sure your using? It reads to me like you are using/clocking the Ryzen incorrectly. You're syustem resetting is a sign of a bad overclock, and with all core overclocks on Ryzen 2/3, it is DANGEROUS if you did not test your fitness controller to find your max voltage for your X clocks.

I suggest you set it back to default, go into advanced overcloocking, change PBO to manual. Under PBO under limits set PPT/TDC/EDC to the max of your cooling, like that cpu is 65w so try 105w mabye? Then set your boost clock override to 100mhz, and leave voltage on auto, save it and retry.

You can't set the speed for the F cpus so getting a Z motherboard would be just wasting money. Just get a cheap B460 motherboard for it.
4.3GHz should be just for single core, I don't know the speed for all cores though.

Stop trying to OC your Ryzen processor, all you are doing is reducing performance and causing instability. If Steve from GamersNexus can't beat the built in boost algorithm, Joe Smoe PC builder certainly isn't.

You have a 1660 super according to your system specs, it's pointless to upgrade your CPU. Not that the 10400F is much of an upgrade over the 3600 anyways. It's 3.2% faster at 1080p with a 3090. With your GPU? Definitely 0% difference.

I wouldn't bother, waste of money. And both proxessors from Intel and amd are built differently. The amd has a higher ipc then Intel at the same clock.

A ryzen 5600x costs twice as much as a ryzen 5 3600 and for the money it costs i can get an intel i5 10400f + a z490 or z590 mb

I want to oc my cpu as fast as possible, i would rather have a gpu limited than a cpu limit, since a cpu limit gives stutter, lagg, a gpu limited you won't get stutter, lagg, just a little low fps. Project cars 3 did reset itself so i had to start all over, even when im shure my game setting is still stored somewhere (how many races i have don and my score).

Well Intel 11th gen is gonna drop very soon, why not wait a little bit more? 11400F + B560 mobo sounds like good deal, and 3200mhz RAM clock is supported on B560 chipset

Note that 3200mhz is Gear 2, while 2933mhz is Gear 1.
Gear 1 means RAM frequency runs at 1:1 ratio with IMC, so 2933mhz Gear 1 might perform slighly better than 3200mhz Gear 2.

2.6 and 4.4 ghz vs the 10400f 2.9 and 4.3 ghz, isn't that a smaller difference than between my ryzen 5 3600 and a i5 5 10400f when you consider that intel is still faster in games, if i/you want a faster amd gaming cpu it's a ryzen 5 5600x = same price as a i5 10400f and a good mb also a 10400f is cheaper than a 11400f

11400F + B560 mobo is still cheaper and will out-perform 10400F + Z490, not to mention you get PCIe Gen4 with the 11400F + B560 combo.

Same price? According to tweakers for prices here in Belgium the i5 10400f costs 136€ and the ryzen 5 5600x 349€. Big price difference in my opinion.

Man are you kidding right now ?
You would rather buy new CPU and MB from intel rather then reduce the the clock speed of your ryzen system by 100mh  :kookoo:, do you seriously believe the extra 100mh will rock your world !!!
Christ man, calm down and settle with what you have cause the system is great, the problem is in your thought process, also the 10400f max all core boost is 4.0 ghz, and you cannot OC it

Fuck Intel. Stick with your 3600, ditch the x470 board and buy a B550 board instead. That will allow you to use 3200MHz speed RAM. I'm typing this from a 3600+B550+3200 speed RAM right now.

Well yeah, expect the memory controller in inside the 3600 CPU so switching from X470 to B550 wouldn't really add improvements to memory OC

OK then. Forget I said anything, lol.

OP, keep what you have now.

Yeah damn right, to the OP, many people would be pleased to have a system as good as yours and here you are debating about throwing it out because its 4.1ghz instead of 4.2ghz,
lamo am so triggered right now :banghead:, the length people would go for very futile things lol :shadedshu:

ryzen 5600x same price as a 10400f + mb or much lower

Ryzen 5600 x stock 2799 of my currency i5 10400f 997 + 1200-1300 for a cheap z490 mb (or b mb), + 20% just for a ryzen 5 5600x

I know ryzen can be stable but not the way i want it with my current setup, cpu, i think i can get intel a little more stable than just use my current ryzen 3600 cpu.

Reading this, my soul just left my body and am genuinely dead inside, i think i have seen enough of this thread, whatever you end up settling with, i hope you find the satisfaction that you want, even tho on paper your Ryzen 3600 system is satisfactory enough for you in everything but a number, and again, the i5 10400f max all core boost is 4.0 ghz, a farcry from your 4.2 or above target, and you cannot overclock it.

it's also not 100% stable and i don't want to run it below stock speed

Just an extra tip, intel rocket lake 11th gen CPUs will launch this month, and they will support memory speeds up to 3200mhz native with unlocked memory overclocking support on B and H motherboards in addition to small performance improvements, should you want to jump to intel, wait for rocket lake 11th gen CPUs, like the the new i5 11400 and please... dont buy Z boards on non k CPUs, especially now when B an H boards are going to support memory overclocking

There isn't a problem in getting something faster if i want to, alone the fact that intel is better for gaming gives it an advantage over amd.
