Hello everyone,

the company I work for has replaced my laptop from an i5 11th gen something/Quadro T500/16GB to i7 12850HX/RTX A2000/32GB.

Just out of curiosity I was looking how it performs in general, and noticed that the 12800HX is way faster in R23.
I looked at the specs etc. but I can't figure out why it is like that.

What am I missing?

By the way, the laptop is used for CAD, modelling, photogrammetry, laser scanning data processing etc. and it's one of the best on the market (excluding monsters like Ryzen 9 7945HX :D ).
It's actually faster than my desktop (5800X3D) although I don't use my one for anything other than gaming.

I think those tests might have an issue, the 12800hx and 12850hx have the same clocks. The only differene is that the 12850hx supports ECC memory and vPro management features. Other than that, both cpu's are the same.

The 12800hx cant be overclocked.

I found exactly the same differences in specs but I don't understand why the performance is different.
Same clocks, same core count, same power consumption....I mean....wth?

Judging from the nearly identical single core benchmarks, cooling difference appears to be the more likely culprit. That is to say the 12850HX appears to be throttling when using all cores on the sampled laptops, while the 12800HX sample appear to not be.

If the tests were ran back to back on the two 12850HX samples, you may have your answer. The average was dragged down significantly by the throttled second run.

This was going to be my suggestion too. Thermal Throttling.

I dont know of any laptops with the 12850hx cpu, maybe laptops that are for CAD designs.
