Intel to Rebrand Pentium "Kaby Lake" Processors as Pentium Gold

They should just give all (desktop) Pentiums HT and be be done with it.

I'm pretty sure they have, starting with Kaby Lake.

Pentium.... is just dated... its not really a positive name if you know what I mean.
Well, the CPU is also dated, so it fits perfectly.

This cannot be more confusing than their Xeon line, or worst, their mobile line...
Don't know about that. I deal with the Xeon line regularly and it's pretty straight forward compared to the Core desktop and mobile lines. Maybe it's because I'm familiar with them, but still.
I don't quite understand the position of Pentiums anymore. For example, on laptops, you have shit tons of Celeron N3000 series and then there's shit tons of Core i3 5005 and 6006. Where do Pentiums fit in? I'd understand it's between Celeron and Core i3. But there just aren't any around. Maybe I've seen like 2 or 3 so far. But they cost almost more than Core i3 laptops so I'm confused...
It's because Intel doesn't want to waste anything. Part of the reason Celeron and Pentium lines exist side by side is because of Core i3 dies that bin out with defects and limitations but will operate fine with the flawed areas disabled can be marketed as feature limited alternative products. So when you buy a mainstream socket Celeron or Pentium, it's really just an i3 binned out with operable defects. The i5 is the same. Most of them are i7 dies that have flaws or operational limitations that prevent them from being delivered in the i7 package. And gets even more complicated than that. Such efforts are worth it to Intel as they can maximize profits and minimize loss. AMD, Nvidia and everyone else does the same thing to some degree.

Gold, while low-power "Gemini Lake" SoCs will bear the Pentium Silver brand, besides Celeron. Re-branded names apart, the Pentium Gold SKUs will be identical to the parts they are replacing

Gold
Silver

and finally Lead :)

What? I don't really understand what you're saying.
It's all just so confusing mate I've a little win 10 fusion 5 even Microsoft hasnt got a clue what it's processors called , though I've thought of a name:).

Cheers , i have had a bit of luck tweaking it ,its not great but alright for browsing and remoting , it's Windows that doesn't know though not me ,thanks though.
Someone should tell them, just to point out how they still have work to do on Win 10 (as if they didn't know already). If Windows doesn't recognize a 2014 CPU, what other things does it miss? Just sayin'
