Intel vs. AMD: Which brand of CPU should you choose when building a PC?

The last AMD cpu i bought was an Athlon FX60. I'm not planning to go green anytime soon.

Really depend on budget, what the computer going to be used for, and software being used.

I currently maybe only have one AMD CPU now. But it still holds up strong.
And I enjoy messing with both just like how I enjoy messing with both Nvidia and AMD cards. Each one has it own quirks and capabilities.

Only reason I have as many Intels currently because it seems gamers off load CPUs like they are out of style. Only time I'm picky is 2P/4P rig where I mostly going for watts/performance.

Intel = better performance
( expensive than AMD )

AMD = low performance
( cheaper than Intel )

There are people out there that won't pay 300$/400$ for a CPU and that's why they choose AMD over Intel.

The question should include a time frame, as we have no idea what Zen will be like and people are waiting for that.
Currently I would buy Intel, but after Zen is released, I can't say, I want hard facts.

I started messing with PC's back in 2010 but showed huge interest in electronics and computer since my mid teen years... around 14 years old. Constantly got in trouble for taking my Playstation's and XBOX's apart and modding them.

I can't choose either as that would put me on a non equal footing as i like both equally but for different reasons, if anything i am 46% intel, 54% AMD.

When running a business you gotta think of one thing and that is profit margins. So over the case of 8yrs Ive mainly built AMD (APU) systems because of price performance and 99% of clients only use a PC for Facebook, youtube, google, and the odd game, basically the basics really so a APU system is more then enough and just fits in perfectly for what 99% of clients want. This way I can also still be competitive with big businesses like Hardly Normal, Leading Edge, and other big company's.

But for that other 1% that wants a fast powerful computer and or for gaming I go with a Intel (Mostly i5's) for the extra performance but naturally its going to be alot more expensive and over the case of the last yr I think ive built more Intel machines then in the previous 7-8yrs of building AMD machines, we do need Zen.

And it really depends if you have a desktop or a laptop. AMD is pretty much dead on the laptop front with nothing but low level APU's and other AMD low power or lower level processors. Intel pretty much runs the laptop world.

I am not saying the those APU's are crap, for most users its they they need and it falls within their buget, but for some users like me that plays games and other higher level needs, Intel is the only player in the laptop front.

I have a 17 and 13 inch laptop, both can play games so both have Intel processors. The business laptop has a 860m, aka 750ti, so it can play most games on medium to high graphics level.

In my house, it's 5 to 1 Intel to AMD. I'd love to change that ratio with a Zen in the future.

It's a "atm" poll I guess, so the answer is clearly Intel for me, because amd cpus atm are crap. Just their apus are somewhat useful, I built 2 apu PCs for family for office/multimedia and they are fine.

As everyone is saying being on budget AMD is great performance per dollar spent, but performance wise Intel is superior right now. Because of this I'm saying good bye to my old FX-8320 and gonna get i5-4670k

In term of gaming and general usage AMD have a nice budget CPU like Athlon x4 845 (actually they should release Excavator with unlocked multiplier) and some cheap APU like A8-7600 A8-7650K A8-7670K.

Beyond that Intel is dominate. i3-6100 compete with FX-8350 in heavily thread games and win by huge margin in single thread games.
