Hi,

I have an interesting problem! MY Mobo (ROG X670E EXTREME) was destroyed and the shop gave me credit to get a new one. It was 40 days before the release of the X870E and i didn't want to wait so i got the X670E GIGABYTE PRO X!

after I got the machine from the shop with all updates i had an unpleasant surprise! the machine after booting up there was an image like this

View attachment anyone-know-whats-wrong-with-my-monitor-v0-pcy7ktnzp40b1.webp

***THIS IS NOT THE ACTUAL PICTURE BUT CLOSE TO WHAT I GET********

-i reseted the PC and i logged into windows normally
-next day i turned on the PC and while i go the windows LOGIN screen normaly the system appeared frozen. i put the log in credentials and with huge lag i logged into my PC but it was unresponsive. I unplugged the HDMI cable and the problem was solved.

this happens once per day more or less. If the HDMI plug/unplug doesn't work i just reset my PC!
I have tried this with 2 Graphic cards: RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 in HDMI 2.1 4k 144hz and the result is the same!

IS it a MOBO issue? IS it a memory issue?
what's going on?
I do not want to change MOBO again so i thought to ask you here the forum you are amazing people and always with the best suggestions!

Yeah how did the previous board die?

Also, can you take a picture of your own crash instead? Does the sound freeze as well?

I would try a different hdmi cable, if that doesn't work you might want to try another PSU. I also would double check the PCIE power connector to the gpu, make sure nothing got hot. I assume you have tried updating drivers etc?

Your previous motherboard died from a power surge? I would be very suspect of the power supply, and in fact, would test each part individually. How do you know the hdmi cable is good? very quick and easy to try a new one.

Personally I have never heard of a motherboard blowing up because of a power surge unless the PSU failed too. Don't even see how it's possible unless it has no protection features. Trash the psu.

there is nothing wrong with HDMI cable!
I'm willing to bet that there IS something wrong either with the cable or the TV settings (that's not a PC monitor, that's a TV and HDMI is ****). The way it behaves points out to the cable (yeah, yeah, I saw the post yelling that is nothing wrong with it) . Lower the bandwidth in the first place (go Chroma 4:2:2 for example and see what's happening and cut the sound over HDMI). Good luck.
