It's supposed to support a Xeon X5670 6c/12t, which can be had for $55 on eBay. Overclocking potential is supposed to be quite good. If I go that route, total cost is $165.

For me (at least), it's quite an upgrade. From an X5470 4c/4t to 4c/8t ...or 6c/12t if I go the Xeon X56xx route.

Max Turbo X5690 = 3.73 (@$160)
Max Turbo X5670 = 3.33 (@$55)

Looks like everything else is identical.

I think the price/perf on the X5670 is sweeeeeeeet.

I almost want one of those 6 core xeons with a 12gb triple chanel ram kit... with oc, that would beat my locked i5 in single thread wouldn't it? The additional threads would help out great in tasks that use it as well. But with zen around the corner and the part of me that wants to support AMD... and no money anyway, moot point :laugh:

I keep thinking about September 2018, big loan will be paid off!

I wouldn't need that much. Many will say 8GB is becoming the baseline for gaming, 12GB would help with that... but no way would I need 24.

Just returning after OC the crap out it and wow what an overclockker this chip is. Remember this is on air cooling and it hits 4.5 GHz with all 6 cores and HT still on.

And even at those speed temp Arent to bad.
