Bethesda has released its latest beta patch for Starfield, adding official support for NVIDIA DLSS 3 Frame Generation, fixing several issues, and implementing further CPU and GPU optimizations. The November 8th Beta Update, as it is called, is only available via Steam Beta Update, and it should go live to all Xbox and PC players later this month.

According to the release notes, the new update adds NVIDIA DLSS support with DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-aliasing (DLAA), Nvidia Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame Generation. The update also fixes several performance and stability issues, including a fix for a number of memory related issues and leaks, additional GPU optimizations that will benefit higher-end graphics cards, and improvements to the renderer threading model that should improve CPU usage on higher-end systems. The update also includes various stability and performance improvements.

The release notes also include fixes for issues related to the new FOV slider options, a fix for an issue with ambient occlusion on ultrawide resolutions, and optimizations for initial shader compilation. When it comes to gameplay, the update adds the ability to eat the food placed in the world, adjusts stealth settings, fixes choppy mouse movement issues, and fixes various other gameplay issues. There are also several quest related fixes, which you can check out in the full release notes below.

UPDATE HIGHLIGHTS

NVIDIA DLSS SUPPORT
  • This update introduces Nvidia DLSS support for our PC players. Compatible Nvidia graphic cards can now use DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-aliasing (DLAA), Nvidia Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame generation. Please note: While DLSS Frame Generation is active, VSync needs to be toggled OFF to see the benefit. We are working to automatically adjust this setting in a future update.

LET THEM EAT!
  • By popular request, we have added the ability to ingest food and drink items upon finding them in the environment. You can enjoy those Chunks immediately or save them for later. The choice is yours.

The millions of people who bought the PC version probably care..

Yeah but it seems generally accepted that the game was a huge disappointment with the biggest problem being that there is nothing to do.
Looking at Steam, that game dropped off hard.

if they had content updates then sure, but this stuff....yeah idk who cares.

ok why, you havent completed it yet? were you waiting for something specific to be added or fixed before continuing?

The game is at 50% approval rate and dropping for the last 30 days. When the hype faded (and it was rather fast) the score fell off a cliff.

Why does it matter if it was a huge disappointment now? What matters is that people are still playing it and that Bethesda is at least keeping its promise and updating it. Technically it's still Fallout 4 (which people also say was a "disappointment") in space, which appeals to a lot of single player sci-fi fans, like me.

There are currently 27,000+ active users still playing the game at least on Steam, and probably even more on Xbox Series X considering its a console. Add to the fact that it's a standard loot and grind single player RPG, so these numbers are expected, especially two months after launch since the hype died down.

A large part of the complaints are that "the game is not running well on my X/Y/Z system and should be running at 100fps because it runs GTA V and blah blah blah", On Metacritic, the game received a slew of negative reviews from fake accounts associated with Sony fans, which were subsequently identified and removed.

Well, the game itself is good(7/10), for those who are fans of Bethesda games the product delivered was within or even beyond expectations, I myself expected a festival of bugs, but it was one of the most stable games at launch.

Remember those bizarre conspiracy theories people had that AMD was blocking DLSS or whatnot ? The game got DLSS3 before FSR3 lol.

I haven't paid attention but did they ever fix your player looking left while running? That's just the most ridiculous bug, not sure how it got past any testing?

I worked in QA for games, vast majority of bugs players encounter upon release have already been discovered, they just don't get fixed for various reasons.

I think you said that piss poor performance is no grounds for a negative review and got me giggling. Some bad reviews mention performance, others whatever reason. I dunno the recipe for a 50% approval but must be a piece of shit however you spin it.

If the game of the generation is just "good" then Microsoft should better close up shop and focus on Azure. And that's the problem here, it was overhyped to the Moon and back and it's just a mediocre game no one can talk about how much a letdown it was.

For a game AMD pimped, they are already falling behind on the tech front with FSR3 and Anti-Lag+ just footnotes in history.

How about the possibility on removing or tuning the washed-out image filter that plague the image in this game?

Doesn't change the fact I paid $605 (Prime day sale in July + no tax due to visa cash back + starfield premium free) for a 7900 xt that once oc'd matches a rtx 4080 day and night in raster performance, half the price, and now I can play lot of older games that DLSS will never come to fully maxed out at 165 fps 165hz 1440p, its been a blast replaying the batman games without having to turn down settings any and ultra smooth high refresh.

does anyone care at this point?

It's a new game, so I should think so. Not everyone can spend 100 hours on a game in two months. I've barely started on the main questline!

Will see if there's any performance improvements this weekend.
I think you said that piss poor performance is no grounds for a negative review and got me giggling.

That's not at all what he said, which instead was more akin to "people say 'my computer runs GTA5 well so it should run this game well too'".

Honestly for me it's probably the best Bethesda game I've played. Fallout 4 made me angry and entertained, Skyrim was beautiful and nothing else, Fallout 3 just made me sad, I did try Obvlivion at some point but did not like and I never played Morrowind. I have 90 hours or so in Starfield, not since Stellaris have a played a game this much close to release. It's definitely a 7/10 video game, the best kind of video game.

This patch only fixes about a third of the quest bugs. I havent played in a couple weeks so any performance fixes should be noticeable. I havent had any real issues with the visual bugs as they are good for a giggle. One of the big bugs I do have an irritation with is having unwanted passengers on your ship since they interfere with movement on board.

this is why I am waiting for more patches and the expansion to come out before I do my full playthrough. hopefully Todd comes through and gives us a polished game in a year or two. honestly sucks this is the state of gaming now, but Starfield isn't an outlier here, this has become very common in recent years. its why i only play my old backlog these days

Lack of FSR3 would appear to be because surprise surprise, much like the game, it isn't finished cooking yet, classic AMD feature move. DLSS3 is, relatively speaking, leagues ahead in maturity. And getting DLSS this late does nothing whatsoever to undo the wealth of evidence supporting the partnership/sponsorship deal blocking, restricting or dis-incentivising competitor tech, in fact it even supports it, the sponsorship and bundle has now ended, and now we get DLSS, shock horror! AMD caught with the hand in the cookie jar and couldn't answer a simple question for months, and now that the mutually beneficial parts of the deal are done, of course Bethesda can do what they like with their own game and AMD give some super vague non-committal PR fluff answer that still doesn't directly just say we don't and won't do it. I can only hope they've learned that this type of anti-gamer move has impressed and endeared themselves to nobody, well perhaps nobody but the exceptionally small and vocal minority who despite condemning other brands for anti gamer moves, are happy to applaud AMD for it.

All in all Starfield is slowly coming along, might pop my head in the door in another few months when I pick up XBLive again for a game I actually want to play.
