man, I just bought the 34GK950. I really want the 3840 x 1600.

I was in the exact same boat. I got the same one as you a few months ago (the freesync2 model) because they ran it at a $799.00 promo price and no release timeframe what-so-ever on the 38" model. I have zero regrets, such a nice looking display at an incredible price.... but yea now knowing how awesome the 34" is, that 38" would be amazing.

was holding back from buying 34gk950f knowing the 38 inch model coming later this year... however, it's g-sync and not freesync / g-sync compatible... I don't want to be tied with Nvidia cards if I get this monitor... we'll see...

Your will is stronger than mine lol... i couldn't resist the promo price. However I will say, I would definitely go for the freesync version (I would definitely think one is coming even if it wasn't announced right now). I am running it on an nVidia card flawlessly on the 34gk. Save your $200+ for something else, and save from being tied to a GPU manufacturer in the future.

$2k ouch... Been waiting on a proper larger sized high-refresh monitor. This definitely fits the bill, but the bill is too high :banghead:
Guess I'll wait to see what ASUS offers.

Pity both are HDR400 not HDR1000, as that 38" model is damn tempting for the increased vertical over 3440x1440.

Agreed, 1600 is nice, with that aspect ratio though on wide screen do we still get the letterboxing effect where we have large black borders on either side of the screen when playing media content? Have a LG widescreen now, dont really like curved monitors either. There was a 27 inch 1080 monitor samsung just announced that was also curved, soon, our smartphones will be curved too.

Curved is the only thing that makes sense in ultrawide (at least above 30" or so) given how the edges of the screen would otherwise seem to be warped away from you, and too far from your focal plane to be sharp, forcing your eyes to refocus if you're looking around the screen. This is both uncomfortable, impractical, and causes eye strain. On the other hand, curved 27"-ish 16:9 monitors make no sense at all.

3840 x 1600 kind of weird resolution. As an owner of a 3440x1440 21:9, I bet finding the correct ultrawide game hack for that will be a pita.

What makes a resolution weird, in your opinion?

21:9 = 7:3 = 2.(3)

Aspect ratio of your monitor (3440x1440) is not 21:9, but 43:18 = 2.3(8)

Aspect ratio of 2560x1080 and 5120x2160 monitors is 64:27 = 2.37(037)

Aspect ratio of 3840 x 1600 is 12:5 = 2.4
