Hi Guys,

Just wondering what your experiences have been with Lian-Li Warranty and even with other manufacturers. Unfortunately Lian-Li refused to replace my fans with faded RGB lights despite being within warranty.

I get that there is a new explanation as to when RGBs are run white at full brightness that this occurs overtime however there is no guideline for this and it occurred within a month or two of usage, my products are still in warranty, this is not a battery or consumable product, do they have the right to reject my warranty request? I've been told this is not considered a defect.

Thanks.

I've never heard of such reason to deny warranty, seems pretty bizarre to say the RGB lights aren't covered on a product where the RGB is like one of the main selling points.

Are the fans within the warranty period mandated by law because if they still are they obviously can't just refuse to replace them, if not I am afraid they're not obliged to cover anything outside that.

I guess you need prove there is a stark difference between a faded led and a correctly colored one, then you have a more substantial evidence to argue with lian-li. I couldn't really tell the difference from the pics.

Personally i feel this is a grey area, the product is fully functioning as it is intended to with a small faded rgb light but it is still working. That would be lian-li's comeback arguement that the product is working and not broken.

I think you might need to look at consumer laws in your country and see whether you are eligible for a replacement. I know it is under warranty and all but have to look closely what is the acceptable condition for it to be replaced.

I hope this helps

Yes as per Hyderz, despite LEDs turning yellow due they no longer consider this a defect on fans and instead recommend to reduce brightness significantly to ensure to extend the RGBs' life... how long are the RGB LED lights even meant to last? Again there is no guideline for this so being refused on the spot is a major concern lol.

Lian-Li have agreed to replace all 9 fans as a once off however have warned me they cannot honor warranty if it were to happen again, I think in future I will go above and beyond in my research before buying into a manufacturer, this is a major headache...

On an alternative note...

Those Lian Li AL120 or AL140 fans seem to cost stupid amounts of money. You could potentially make some money back selling the new fans when they arrive and using the money from the sale to buy more reliable fans from a competing brand.

For example...

When compared to:

1690289251147.png

The only real bug bear is the 'Arctic' logo and the Arctic fan not looking as premium. But horses for courses.

With the extra money, you could also purchase a Cooler Master Universal LED Strip (or two) if the Artic doesnt give your case enough LED bling. (or add your own cheap LED strip...)

The product has been around for a while now but they can still make a case look pretty cool. The backs are magnetic so they'll stick to wherever you place them inside your case unless you have one made out pure glass, plastic or acrylic/Plexiglas. Cooler master do RGB addressable and single colour LED Strips so you can play around with things if your motherboard has RGB headers to plug them into... Im using an old as dirt ROG Z370-F board and it has RGB headers (which i have never used and dont use as i have the mentioned single colour LED Strips)

Probably not the answer you're looking for but just another way to skin a cat and still retain the warranty. (Replacement Lian Li fans wont have warranty. Arctic offers 6 years warranty on all their products)

It helps thanks, something I'll consider for sure when I next buy fans as I don't really think their explanation is acceptable for dying RGBs. There's no documentation or any information on their website to say that LED/RGBs won't last an x amount of time if x setting is used thus if they aren't up front about it they should be replacing the ones that do become faulty especially if a product is within warranty, this isn't general knowledge an average consumer like myself would know..

I'll keep this thread updated if I receive the fans or not & how long it takes as a point of reference for future lian li fan buyers

Personally for me - If the fans came with the case. They SHOULD be covered under the same 'case warranty' unless clearly stated on the retailers website or manufacturers own website that they dont.

A lot of manufacturers will try to avoid replacing things if they think they dont have to or can get away with it. You really have to stand your ground with them to get them to act.

LEDs are generally rated for only being so bright for so many hours until they start to fade/degrade. Heat makes it even faster.

Fade is normal for a LED but within 1500hours does seem a bit short.
I also can't tell what your profile looks like for your fans. Is it 100% static white? Is there any active motion with colors?

Its static all white.

Thus the issue, what rating? Where is this rating from? How do we know the quality of component we are buying if we don't know? What is deemed short or long?

Surprising and disappointing to see both poor quality and bad service from Lian Li. Those fans are not cheap.

I also definitely recommend Arctic for "premium" performance without the premium price. These Thermalright fans for $5 each haven't faded after 3 months on full white. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BKJWMQLW?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) They are louder than my Arctics at max speed but run quiet at the middle of the rpm range where I need them.

Whatever diode they're using has a rating. Ask them which diodes they use maybe?

Are you in US or EU or other?

If in EU, ask your consumer rights organization. They will screw Lian Li without lube after smelling obvious court win...

Many Asian companies fail to understand the laws within EU and that there are no buts or noes, it has to serve 2 years.

It does not matter what it says. It has to serve for 2 years. They can write Bob Dylan lyrics there but it won't change anything from a consumer perspective. You buy a thing and it HAS to serve 2 years.

I feel you come from US. Yes. I work in RMA for decades. You have no power to state some cuckoo stuff to cover your arse because your product sucks and is an engineering failure. There are rare exceptions, but not here.

For example, non removable batteries are covered under warranty within 2 year period, no matter what what bullcrap you post on the page. And this is respeced in EU. Otherwise to the court.

Our consumer rights orgs are pretty welcoming, as soon you get those games, they gather evidence and overtake the case and defend the consumer being fooled around. That's the way it should be.

I have a separate controller per 3 fans in the case.

Yes US rights are amazing but so are ANZ hence why I'm complaining a bit on here to see what others have experienced through Lian-Li.

I don't think I'll buy another Lian-Li fan after this, really left a bad taste after needing to wake up the customer service guy just to get replacements.. Ah and that response at the end "We'll do it as a once off make sure you don't use white at peak brightness so the product lasts next time". Jesus..

At least they refused it. They never bothered to get back to me at all when I contacted them about a defective case (physical damage out of the box). That was my first Lian-Li case too and now they lost a customer for life for that BS.

They just totally missed on thinking about cooling those LEDs... and the sad moral... while being in a FAN... If they just cannot handle the current, just parallel two. If it costs more? If count fractions of cents... yeah... They screwed up at such a simple thing... it is really kindergartens level of electronics they done wrong here... no excuses here.

You should contact your seller first, not the maker. We have a law here... if you don't like the color of the stuff within 2 weeks, if it is an online purchase, you are eligible of returning it without questions asked.

And yet it's my fault for wanting to use white at peak brightness through their own app.. they could also limit the brightness settings in L-Connect to prevent further warranty claims, instead they blame the customer for not knowing better.. lol

+1 for FreedomEclispe's idea.
If they are going to jerk you around w/ warranty coverage, sell the the new replacements off as a bundle and move onto greener pastures.
