Warranty departments have always run wild though. It's like they're instructed to care as little as possible about consumer law, completely ignore issue, however minor, that could potentially escalate - this dude with the 4090 that had the small indent on the 12VHPWR broken, it's really a minor problem, basically without that the cable won't lock in place, which *shouldn't* inutilize the graphics card, as long as the cable isn't being pulled or yanked while it's in operation, but let's suppose that due to that, his card catches fire, his house follows, whole neighborhood etc - let's take it to the extreme and let's say this single card, being denied warranty repair with the guy being overcharged to this extent - caused the next Great Fire of wherever they live, is anyone holding ASUS accountable? Of course not. Yet perhaps it's high time they (and every other corporation pulling things like this) should.

I'll trade him my strix white 4080 that has a perfectly good indent though!

my Deck OLED plays plenty of games just fines, and I can game for 10 hours straight no charge of battery in several games. take care champ

True, don't get me wrong, it's more that I'm way too used to a desktop's performance so a handheld isn't really viable for me to use as my sole system (aforementioned calculator performance ) but still, it's sad to see companies like ASUS doing things like this. They already charge premiums for their hardware, so they should take good care of customers. Without EVGA, if I'm forced to leave ASUS, that might just leave me with Aorus or Galax... and I only stomach their Xtreme and HOF/OC Lab series respectively.

Yep our choices get smaller by the day sadly. Sapphire is apparently making motherboards now... hopefully they expand that and bring it to the West. I trust them for the most part. we def need more competition... so Sapphire coming in would be very welcome.

I'm in the same boat, when a handheld at least matches a midrange gpu I'm in... Somthing that at least matches a Series S which is already insanely weak as it is. Might just be too spoiled with high end gpu's I guess.

None of the AIB have good CS the only company I'd trust to honor warranty is Nvidia/AMD direct and the amd reference cards are way too terrible and the high-end nvidia FE cards like the 4090 are super hard to get even now at least in the US of A.

I love me steam deck oled, I was amazed at some of the games it could play albeit lower settings. Take ff7 remake.. plays smoothly for aaa title. I had the option to grab the rog ally but I’m glad I didn’t, the steam deck build quality feels robust

to be honest with you, I think this is why Valve is so good at quality control, they don't have the resources of ASUS (and apparently ASUS doesn't either, which is probably why they resort to tactics like this in the RMA process) when it comes to hardware, so they have to scale out slowly - it does suck for you, but if you really want a Deck OLED, I will give you one free if you let me sleep on your couch for a month for free, but only if you live near a beach, PAPA WANTS TO GO SWIMMING YEEEEEHAAAA

yep, SteamOS does something to the smoothing, as I often tell people, 60 fps on Deck feels different than 60 fps on Windows. it's strange, but in a good way. I still prefer my desktop for hard to run games though, but so many games I love on my Deck OLED too.

Yeah, my 2022 G14 is the last ASUS device I'll get (though mainly for different reasons).

I've RMAed two electronic devices, an MSI motherboard (bricked itself after changing memory timings) and my Steam Deck (died emulating PS3 games while plugged into a JSAUX dock), and both times I had excellent experiences. Both RMA replacement devices are still going strong, and both were done at no charge (other than one-way shipping for the motherboard)

My G14 already has over 10% wear on the battery after a little over a year, and the bottom case is cracking around the corner screws. But hearing all the horror stories about ASUS customer service, I guess I'll just have to live with them or fix them myself.

I don't hate the G14; it has issues but is a great laptop. I just can't recommend anyone buy it, especially after hearing about this kind of stuff.

LOL, I don't like the RX 6500 XT, because that model has bull-poop specs, because at the time of those cards, Intel's Arc wasn't around yet, which didn't help! In fact, that extremely likely made the people in charge, think there is virtually no competition at all!

good to know I can be worry free with my Deck under warranty, but even outside of that its such an open sourced repair friendly device that I have full confidence if I saw drift I could fix it with YouTube tutorials and an IFIXIT kit. it sure as heck beats ASUS

to my knowledge they have not run out of stock of the Deck OLED, and still haven't sold off the LCD models either, so I am not sure what is taking so long for them to expand out and start adding more countries slowly. I have no idea what their reasoning is, but yeah sorry about your luck over there.

its funny you mention this, I have a 15 yr long account with Steam, and I never make suggestions ever, and I made a suggestion for SteamOS software in a ticket, and they replied they can't do anything about that but they would forward it to correct team. and like 5 months later they added this feature to steam, was unbelievable
