Looking for silent 9070 (XT)

Hi,

I always check the noise level here at TP but for now I only can find 3 reviews so I don't even try to get a 9070/9070XT.

For me that is the key and I don't care about how the card look like or something else. As you can see this "OC" cards means almost nothing.

I bought a 6800 TUF and 7800XT Hellhound, because they are silent (and sometimes use the cooler from the bigger card). This time I plan to get maybe a 9070XT and use it with PT 80%.

Any recommendations?

This is something I wonder about too. I run a RX580 at 35% and it's fairly quiet.
Had issues getting the 7900XT Hellhound to detect let alone spin up properly but good.
I expect the 9070XT Hellhound has the same performance. Display outputs have me considering others though.
I don't know if I will ever use 3xDP on this system and it seems way more likely that I will need 2xHDMI before that happens.

I have the PowerColor 9070 XT Reaper in a small Velka 7 case (6.22 l), so my priority is to lower the heat output and fan noise. By undervolting the card, I achieve 96% performance at only 200 watts, and the fans are now almost dead quiet.

-500 MHz, -90 mV, 2700 MHz, -30%.

If you don't mind me asking, do you know what voltage/power was required to sustain 3200mhz? By that I mean raster, as I think that operates 5% faster than RT (3050mhz in that instance at similar power).

I figure it would probably be around ~270-275w, and your instance very much scales for that to *appear* accurate, but I'd love to know the actual reality.

I appreciate it, if you have the time. If not that, that's cool too. Just something I thought might be a good option for one of my HTPCs (just a little more perf than stock of most cards, but manageable power).

Either way, enjoy the card. That's a very power-efficient setup you've got going on. :toast:

Get hit with a fish and lose your hear so you don't have a problem with loud GPUs.

Or, if we're being serious, I'd pick something heavily over-engineered and underclock it till it no longer abuses my ears. GPUs nowadays allow fan speed adjustments, too.

NB: I'm a "fans must blow" zealot, I don't mind 6K RPM blower fans in an open system, my only concern is how well it works and how far it is from overheating. Noise amuses me, rather.

I have since changed it to -100 mV and -15% power, with everything else at stock, and I now get 100% performance at 257 watts.Temperatures are around 58-59°C, and the fans are still almost dead silent.
I will go with the TUF 9070 non XT. Can't get XT and stock TUF is silent, so with a lil bit OC it should be ok.

Looks like this is the reason why they just 50 bucks cheaper. XT can go much higher but at the end its almost the same...

Thats the problem. Review 1 talk about 30dB and review 2 for the same card 25dB. That's why I only use TPup.

That sound great!

The only useful video I found for this idea.
You can undervolt and clock-limit RDNA to achieve a noise/perf balance that is quite optimal. The coolers are generally good enough to go pretty quiet that way.

But! Its a per-game affair and you will find RT loads harder to run optimally. They need more voltage in general; and run at lower clocks generally, too because of that. I tend to work around that with an FPS cap per game on top of my OC. Set it to a level that doesnt fully stress the gpu.
