Marvel's Spider-Man 2: PC Port Gets Underwhelming Reviews

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 debuted on the PlayStation 5 in October 2023, and a sizeable chunk of PC gamers have been looking forward to a PC port. Now that Nixxes Software has finally made that happen, it appears that the reception has been rather poor, despite making it to the trending section. Specifically, a substantial portion of buyers are complaining about intolerable technical difficulties and a poor experience overall. This is quite disappointing, considering that the game looked quite promising considering the relaxed system requirements, at least by modern standards.

"To say this is 'rough' is an understatement", voiced a user. Another review claimed that the game crashes every 10 minutes, with others stating that graphical glitches and errors are a common occurrence, making the game "nearly unplayable". Moreover, a plethora of other reviews complained about severe FPS drops, ray tracing issues, as well as extremely long loading times, even with solid-state storage. Overall, as of this writing, the game has amassed a total of 2,168 reviews, a whopping 1,228 of which are negative. It is more than likely that future patches will resolve many of the issues, although that does not make up for the poor experience faced by many of those who have already shelled out $60-$70 for the game.

An El Assico of AAA PC versions in the year of our Lord 2025 by this point, I am afraid.

Thankfully, no crashes for me so far but I am only 3 hours and 5% into the story. I am using the latest Nvidia Game Ready 572.16 drivers, one thing I noticed is DLSS Ray Reconstruction for both the legacy model and Transformer model are causing some issues. If you have problem with the game crashing, you can try turning it off.

At 3440x1440 with DLSS on Quality (Transformer model), all settings and ray tracing options turned on at either "High" or "Very High" I am only getting between 60 to 70 FPS. There are times it will drop to around 40 FPS, especially in the opening part of the game that involves a boss fight. It definitely lacked the usual polish of a Nixxes PS5 port, they did a way better job with Horizon Forbidden West and Ghost of Tsushima. Hopefully it can be fixed with future patches.

back in the day, (2023, april) cp2077, (not any more with the v2) cp2077 crashed on the ps4pro and ps5 in april 2023 every 2hours, did not matter really because the game state was saved…

so with spiderman on pc , i would guess wait a year and everything will be better…

That's surprising, past Nixxes PC ports have been pretty good. Oh well...

You either die a hero or live long enough to (see yourself) become the villain

I used to think that was a pithy line, great for that film, but not applicable IRL.

Boy was that a naive take. :(

Nobody predicted the collapse of the gaming industry. 20 years ago if someone told you Blizzard would get owned by Activision, Activision would get owned by Microsoft and Bioware getting shut down. you would never believe them.
